People of Note Choir

A joyful & enriching Natural Voice Community choir running since 2000 in Bristol. Come & try us out! We look forward to singing with you soon!

People of Note is one of Bristol’s longest standing community choirs. After several years without a leader (and having previously been run by Nickomo and Rasullah), in early 2022 the choir appointed wonderful new leader, Rosie Sleightholme. Rosie is a Natural Voice choir leader and is really excited to welcome new members to the group.

🎢 Tuesdays 730-930pm, St Paul's Church, Southville, Bristol

We had a brilliant time at the SW Community Choir Convention on Sunday!

I just wrote this song yesterday, and offer it as a free download to anyone who wants to sing and/or teach it. It will be lovely to sing it around the candles in the coming weeks at our PON sessions. I've been quiet on our People of Note social media (I post as Rosie Sings Some Songs much more), mainly as I'm loving our group and what it's grown into, and haven't felt the need to shout about it too much! We're 55 singers, and every Tuesday evening feels nurturing, nourishing, enriching, for me, and I believe for all the wonderful singers. We're looking forward to returning to the SW Community Choir Convention next Sunday 22nd March, and going on our first residential trip together in April. New members are always welcome to come for a free taster, just email me at [email protected]

S'ann an Ile - Trad Gaelic arr. Sheena Phillips 02/07/2025

We had an amazing time performing last weekend at St George's as part of International Make Music Day 🎢

Here we were singing traditional Gaelic Puirt a beul (mouth music) song 'S'ann An Ile', arranged by Sheena Phillips of Canasg Music. Puirt a beul would traditionally be used to accompany dance in the absence of instruments.

This one is singing the praises of Inner Hebridean island Islay, which I am luck enough to have visited several times.

"It's on Islay I was born, on beautiful Islay
It's on beautiful Islay that I was born and brought up
It's on Islay with the green-blue grass that I was born and brought up"

We're now on summer break and back on 16th September for a 12 week Autumn/Winter term. Free tasters welcome to come and try us out in September:
