It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform you of the passing of Derry Smart.
Derry put in so much of her time and energy into tai chi training and our school. We will never forget her and her spirit over the past 22 years.
She was a great advocate for tai chi and helped many people learn and practice. She travelled to train in China, ran classes, trained with the leading lights of tai chi at numerous seminars.
We trained together so many times. So many lovely memories. We will all miss you terribly Derry.

Before we break for Christmas and the New Year I wanted to wish you all a great holiday season. Are you interested in taking up Tai Chi in 2023? Something you have always wanted to try?
From January the 9th we will be welcoming people back into our classes - training, body, and mind - whether this is something new or you are an old hand.
Tai Chi is a mildly aerobic workout which is great for balance, strength, and a full range of movement for your muscles and joints. The mind-body connection of Tai Chi exercise provides a comprehensive meditation and mindfulness programme.
Take just 20 minutes a day to run through the routine at home and set yourself up for the day ahead. Why not combine Tai Chi with your existing workout schedule?
Tai Chi combines the benefits of meditation and relaxation with a whole-body workout - great for you, simple, and fun.
I hope you can join us after the Christmas break. Please drop me a line for joining information or check out our website.

So here we go. From now on the face-to-face classes will be the main focus of the school and the zoom will take a bit of a back seat.
You know I am always wary of the return to some sort of lockdown so the zoom will not be far away.
The plan for now is to offer zoom from the halls.
So, for zoom users Tuesday 9am will move to 10:15, Wednesday and Thursday evening classes will now be 6:30pm and the Thursday morning zoom will 10:30am. Other classes might have zoom just have to see how it pans out.
Hopefully I have updated the website diary correctly and you can access that if you’re not sure.
I am very excited to be heading back to some sort of normality.
However, there will be rules to follow.
• Classes will be socially distanced. 2-meter rule.
• The hall will have one entrance and one exit route.
• Avoid touching surfaces and door handles etc.
• Do NOT come to class if you have a cough or runny nose etc.
• Windows and doors will be wide open to allow loads of ventilation so please do wear lots of layers to keep warm.
• Where possible we will be working outside.
I’m really looking forward to welcoming you back and introducing new starters to tai chi training.
Dont worry if your not feeling too fit, we will get back into the swing of regular training.

We are moving to a blended approach of face to face and zoom classes. We will need to experiment and slowly transition back to physical classes. Luckily, we have the summer months to try more outside events before we head on indoors.
We have a weekend planned for face to face on the 5/6 June over in the Forest of Dean.
Also a Friday morning session at the Kelvin Players Hall on Gloucester Road from 10 – 12:30 on the 18th June.
If you would like to come along drop me a line and I can add you to the list. There will be a limit on the number of people so we can maintain safe distances etc.
Outside would be the best from a fresh air point of view. We will meet at Ashton court on Wednesday evening on the 16 June from 6 – 8:30. I will try and broadcast the session at the same time on zoom. If you want to come to the park then please let me know so I can plan to meet you there.
Can I ask you to start to check the calendar page on the www.bristoltaichi.com I can update that quickly and if the weather is no good, I can switch back to indoors.
We will use other parks and open spaces and try the zoom classes on Horfield Common for instance for the Tuesday morning session. We did that from time to time, before the pandemic, on one of the tennis courts. Nice and flat!
More of the indoor classes in St George, Yate and Winterbourne will return in June.
Like many we hope to be back to some level of normality by September and the autumn term. I imagine with a level of social distancing. Which really, we have always kept to with tai chi forms work so we don’t trip over each other :-)
