In the beginning, the club consisted of like-minded mountain bikers who would meet up informally for a ride around the local woods and even venture to the nearby trail-centres. Folklore has it, these mysterious pioneers created the club under the light of a full moon and after the sacrifice of a 1999 Specialized Hardrock. This newly forged club was known as Bristol University Mountain Bike Club. E
very year, interest in mountain biking increased within Bristol, as did the interest in other riding disciplines such as road cycling. The club reflected this diverse mix of riders by changing its name to Bristol University Bike Club in 2008, then to University of Bristol Cycling Club in 2011. We are now a large and eclectic club consisting of approximately one hundred and fifty riders who enjoy riding Road, Cross Country, Downhill, BMX, Street, Cyclo-Cross, Track and This. Some of our members are interested in raising their level of competition and enjoy training and racing, others like simply getting out into the countryside and meeting like-minded people. We try to bring people together, show people new places, go on trips to great riding destinations and have a fun time in the process.
