Pen y Fan (known as ‘The Fan’ even though the pronunciation is more like ‘Pen a Van’) is the highest and arguably most significant mountain in the glorious ‘Brecon Beacons’ in South Wales. This National Park is now known as the Bannau Brycheiniog, or ‘the Bannau’ for short.

Catbells (451m) rises above the gorgeous Derwentwater in the Lake District. This majestic scene is taken from Crow Park in Keswick. Derwent Island and the historic 18th century House is owned by the National Trust and can be visited for 5 days a year. This is one of my favourite spots.

Keswick is a great place to start any Lake District visit. This easy 4km walk starts is based on the route in the excellent ‘Walks around Keswick’ map guide by footprint. It starts near Market Square, passes the famous Moot Hall, then goes along Lake Road to Crow Park. Next up is the famous viewpoint at Friar’s Crag before retracing your steps a little to go through Cockshot Wood and up to the viewpoint on Castle Head.
