Our U13 boys advanced through the second round of the T20 cup by upsetting Bristol CC on their own ground off the last ball of the game! With the scores tied at 131 but having lost more wickets, Woody got bat on the last delivery and him and Zach scampered through for the winning run to send the boys into raptures, running onto the pitch arms aloft, with a well deserved hand from the gracious home supporters for a thoroughly deserved Brook victory.
Having put the home side into the bat, the boys were their usual bundle of energy and chatter in the field as they applied themselves well against some decent home batting. 2 wickets for Jayden, 1 for Timmy and a miserly couple of overs from Owen were the highlights, but on a fast artificial wkt that the home side were used to, they seemed to find the boundary regularly when needed and posted a challenging score.
It was in chasing this score that the boys excelled. They were aggressive in their running between the wkts, got bat on ball regularly, and helped admittedly by some surprisingly mixed bowling from the hosts, we were largely in the game on run rate at half way thanks hugely to Owen.
As wkts fell and the rate climbed, Owen was out for 34, and 40-off were needed off the last 4 overs and it seemed perhaps the game was slipping away. Cometh the hour, cometh some new lower order heroes; Theo and Oakley got vital quick runs to keep us in it, then with 15 needed off the last 2, Zach smashed his second ball for 4 down the ground which suddenly had us in with a great chance again. Woody then found the cover boundary which had us within touching distance in the last over. Just to keep the stress levels on max, a few dot balls kept it close but more brilliant scampered running by both Zach and Woody got us over the line.
Steve and I couldnโ€™t be prouder of the boys, to chase down such a total against high class opposition in high pressure circumstances speaks volumes for them as a team ๐Ÿ™

The Hambrook Ladies continued their strong start to the season with a first round win against Painswick CC in the 100 Cup.

Captain Jen lost the toss and Hambrook were put into bat. A blistering start by S Quinn and O Stone set them on course for a good total. However, some good bowling from Painswick checked the free flowing runs as a few wickets began to fall. A competitive target of 110 was set.

Hambrook began the second innings with a cross-wicket wind and sun shining-ish. Early wickets were the key and the team were on it with 2 run-outs in the first 10 balls of the innings. Painswick grew into the game and it was getting tight but with 2 wickets in 3 balls from J Wheeler (including a first ever Hambrook Ladies softball LBW wicket) the game swung back towards the Brook. The final wicket being taken by a H Hart runout through the jumping legs of M Bambrough!

On to the second round we go! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ

Well thatโ€™s nice to actually play some cricket!!!

Great performance tonight by the U11โ€™s against an inexperienced, but keen Pucklechurch team who bowled very well against us.

Congratulations to our three debutants Oliver, Thomas & Vihaan it certainly didnโ€™t show that this was their first games for the club and I hope that they all enjoyed it.

Bowling first we started strongly with Rueben bowling two maiden overs and a first Hambrook wicket for Alfie with a very well taken caught and bowled. First Hambrook wickets followed for Vihaan and Oliver, and combined with Ruebenโ€™s run out after a questionable call for a second run by the Pucklechurch batters and a wicket for Louis; Pucklechurch finished on an over par 68 for 5 after we gifted them a considerable number of wides and no-balls. We were guilty at times of trying to bowl too fast and with that came some erratic results and a little lost concentration.

We started strongly again when it came to our turn to bat with an opening stand of 30 - 0 between Rueben and Alfie, followed by a steady partnership of 10 - 0 between Huey and Vihaan. A run a ball stand of 24 - 1 from Thomas and Oliver and finished off with 26 - 2 between Henry and Louis taking us to 90 - 4 from our 16 overs.

in our batting performance were many fine shots and some wonderfully struck boundaries. A nett score of 115 to 68 making Hambrook the winners by 27 runs.

Vihaan and Henry were voted joint players on the match by the team.

We go again next Wednesday evening the 10th with a hardball game away against Downend followed by softball matches 11th home to Frampton Cotterell at 6.00pm and 14th home to Bristol W.I which is a 2:30 pm start.

Please make sure your availabilities are up to date on Teamer and I will look to get the selections out over the weekend UTB ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ
