Masters Athletes News 🏅

A successful weekend for our masters athletes at two major competitions.

On Saturday 30th May, at the British Masters Throws Pentathlon, 10,000m and 1 Mile Championships in Oxford, Karen Jones delivered an excellent performance in the Weight Pentathlon (throwing hammer, discus, shot, javelin and weight) earning a silver medal. The championships took place at Horspath, Oxford on 30 May.

Also in Oxford, Tamsin Chick produced a superb run to claim gold in the Women's V45 Mile Championship.

The following day, Karen travelled to Woking to compete in the European Masters International League. She continued her impressive form, winning gold in the Hammer and gold in the Weight Throw, completing a remarkable weekend with three championship medals.

Congratulations to Karen and Tamsin on their outstanding achievements and for representing the club so successfully. 👏🏆🥈🥇🥇🥇

Congratulations Isabelle Walkey on winning the silver medal 🥈 at the Midland Counties Championships yesterday!

A fantastic performance in the 100m, clocking 11.89 in the heats and an even quicker 11.86 in the final. 💪💪

South West Championships

Entries are now open for the South West T&F Championships, taking place on Sunday 19th July at Exeter Arena, on Roster here: https://meets.rosterathletics.com/public/competitions/details/about?id=29177

This meeting is the individual SW Track and Field Championships and incorporates the SW Inter Counties event. Entry is open to any athlete who has the qualification by birth or continual residence in one of the seven SW Counties (Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset or Wiltshire. )

This is an open event for U14 age group and over, but there are entry standards that you must have achieved to enter. The entry standards can be found either via the entries website, and are pictured below.

Note that the this year there is a limit on the number athletes per event - so do enter sooner rather than later!

If you have achieved the standard in your chosen event(s) you can go ahead and enter!

You will be competing against the best athletes from the other SW counties: Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset, Avon and Gloucestershire. Some performances will also count toward the overall county scores.

For Avon competitors: if athletes have Team Avon vests, by all means wear these. Otherwise, they should wear their Club vest.

Some fantastic Yate AC representation at the upcoming Pickering Memorial International Throws in Loughborough on 31st May 💪

🔹 Owen Garrett has been selected to represent Wales in the U20 Discus and Shot Put.

🔹 Owen Boon has been selected to represent England in the U18 Javelin.

🔹 And our very own coach, Matt Spicer, will be part of the England coaching team for the Hammer squad.

A huge congratulations to all involved — a brilliant achievement and a proud moment for Yate AC!

Yate’s Jerry Musselwhite recently won Silver (M65) at the World Indoor – Ultra Multievents – Tetradecathlon in Helsinki, Finland. Held every two years this adds to the Gold he won in Boston, USA in 2024 and Bronze in Miramas, France in 2022.

Day 1 comprised 60m, Long Jump, 800m, Shot Put, 400m, High Jump and 3000m that saw Jerry leading at the end of the day.

Day 2 included Weight Throw, 60m Hurdles, Pole Vault, 1500m, 200m, Triple Jump and 5000m.

Jerry proved particularly strong in the running events and broke existing Yate M65 Indoor records in the 60m, 200m, 400m, 800m as well as in the Pole Vault and Weight Throw. He currently holds 4 World records for individual events within a Tetradecathlon.

Wow - amazing Jerry! 💪🔥
