2010 Taekwondo

2010 Taekwondo based at Redcatch Hall and St Cuthbert's Church Hall upcoming competition.

This is the premiss upon which I allow my members to grade to black belt. Many will leave as the transition in three monthly gradings to yearly ones is too great for them. The younger ones are obsessed with regular and continuous feedback. One of my mature students suggested I do an interim grading style class for them but I do not feel this is the best option. I believe it is necessary to stop holding their hands at black belt because as this caption states, it is now about gaining knowledge and understanding. I was taught originally by two instructors. Master Fred Lee 4th Dan in 1972 and Audic Begg, 1st Dan. Master Fred Lee was like Bruce Lee in his speed and agility while Audric was a huge man who was slower but incredibly powerful. They would often fight during the break and it was magical to watch as I was a 10 year old boy. Neither would win and both showed all their skills and creativity. One day I summoned the courage to ask Audric why he was only 1st dan. He replied that once you are 1st dan there is nothing else apart from training. In lockdown I reconnected with several past students from that era who were still training today and running their own clubs in and around London. Most were still 1st dan after all these years following in Audrics belief.

Thanks to everyone who came to Zaza Bazaar on Saturday 13th July 2024. It was a lovely end to the academic year and a great night out. See you next in September.

4th Dan awards to Izzy and Rowan achieved on Monday 24th June 2024 at Redcatch Hall. My first two 4th dans. I'm so proud of both of you for your achievements and honoured to have watched you develop over all the years you have trained. My best wishes as you both leave to go to University.
