Avoncroft CC Under 11s | Cup Match vs Astwood Bank CC
A tight cup tie that went right down to the wire, with Astwood Bank edging it by just 13 runs โ but the scoreline doesnโt tell the whole story.
Avoncroftโs bowlers set the tone brilliantly. Max was outstanding with 3 wickets for just 8 runs, Henry grabbing 2 in his spell. Tom and Louie got a wicket each (with a great catch from Jamie) and Albert produced a wicket maiden to close the innings.
As a unit they were disciplined, competitive, and a real handful โ bowling Astwood Bank out for 63.
In the chase, the boys gave it everything. Max top-scored with 11 and Henry added a determined 9, a great partnership between Freddie and Louie put Avoncroft in touching distance of the target.
In the end though, it was just too many to pull back, but this was a game Avoncroft competed in every single over.
The team should be proud of the cricket they played yesterday. The way they conducted themselves on the pitch was a credit to them.
On to the next one, lads. ๐

๐Weekend Roundup ๐
A top of the table clash for the 1st XI, as they hosted Five Ways Old Edwardians CC. Fielding first we restricted them to 219, by bowling them out. Jonny Sproule took 3 wickets, Josh Cound and Ben Athey took one each, as Ben Huxley took an impressive 4-7 from just 7 overs! ๐
To secure a 6 wicket victory, the captain Dan Elliott led from the front, top scoring with 82 not out - supported by Ben Athey (39) and Josh Cound (36).
As always, a huge amount of time and effort went into preparing the pitch and outfield, but particularly last week, the team toiled away throughout the heatwave to ensure the ground was ready for play at the weekend. A great effort from everybody involved! ๐
The 2nd XI batted first and were bowled out for 188. The top order all made starts, with Mike Sadowski digging in and pushing on to top score with 41 on a tough pitch. The bowlers worked hard to keep the run rate down at the beginning of the innings, with Will Lewis picking up a wicket. Andy Pittam broke a key partnership later on as he picked up 3 wickets but unfortunately along with 2 late wickets for James Blow, the hosts chased down the target.
It was runs galore for the 3rd XI as they scored 303 in 40 overs! Jon Brunt top scored with 87 not out, Matt Palmer got 60 as Akshat Kaul scored 69 in no time whatsoever! It was then over to the bowlers to do the business. Openers Joe McGee and Josh Gammon picked up 2 and 3 wickets respectively, to get us off to a great start. Brent Burford came on to bowl, taking 3-5 as Ollie Sims picked up 2 wickets to seal a big victory! ๐ช

Feckenham U9s Festival Summary
A slightly different festival this week after Droitwich unfortunately had to pull out, leaving us with just two scheduled games. Thankfully, the organisers did a great job putting together a mixed game using players from the remaining clubs, meaning everyone still got plenty of cricket.
Results
* Ombersley 80 v Avoncroft 54
* Mixed Game 92 v 79
* Avoncroft 86 v Feckenham 65
Our opening game against a strong Ombersley side was always going to be a tough test, but the team never stopped competing and battled hard until the very end. Across the entire festival we only lost two wickets, both coming in that first game.
The mixed game was a great addition to the festival, giving everyone another opportunity to bat, bowl and field alongside players from the other clubs. It was competitive throughout and ensured everyone got plenty more cricket.
We finished the day on a high with an excellent win over the hosts, Feckenham. It was a brilliant all round team performance, with Josh and Will both taking wickets to help secure the victory.
A special mention to George, Henry, Jude, the twins Alex and Will for some excellent batting throughout the festival. Josh, Noah, Myles and Jack all impressed with the ball, while Tom and Alistair produced some very good fielding performances, setting the standard with their energy, backing up and commitment in the field.
Finally, a special mention to Josh and Noah, who were making their festival debuts and both settled in brilliantly.
The improvement across the squad continues to be fantastic to watch. Confidence is growing with every festival, and the teamwork, encouragement and enjoyment on display is exactly what junior cricket is all about.
