🏆 MFFL CUP & SHIELD RETURN FOR 2026/27

One thing that wasn't changing was the importance of cup football.

Following positive feedback from clubs, we're pleased to confirm that both the MFFL Cup and MFFL Shield will return for the 2026/27 season.

The format is simple:

⚽ All league teams enter Round One
⭐ Wildcard entries and byes will complete the draw to 32 teams
🏆 The 16 winners progress into the MFFL Cup
🛡️ The 16 defeated teams enter the MFFL Shield

This structure guarantees every team a minimum of two cup fixtures, keeps clubs involved for longer, and gives every side something meaningful to play for throughout the season.

The Cup and Shield Finals will once again be held together as part of a dedicated Finals Day celebration.

If your team will not be competing in the MFFL league structure for 2026/27 but would like to enter the cup competition, we'd love to hear from you.

🏆 MFFL LEAGUE STRUCTURE 2026/27

After months of planning, analysis and feedback from clubs across the league, we're delighted to unveil the new MFFL league structure for the 2026/27 season.

When we asked clubs what mattered most, two themes came through loud and clear:

⚽ More competitive matches
🚗 Less travel

Using league, cup and friendly results alongside travel distance data, we've built a structure designed to deliver exactly that.

For the first time, MFFL will feature:

🟣 Premier East
🟣 Premier West
🔵 Championship East
🔵 Championship West

A regionally-based, tiered structure designed to create more balanced competition, reduce travel where possible, and provide a clearer pathway for clubs moving forward.

This is the biggest structural change in MFFL history and we believe it gives every club the best opportunity to compete, improve and enjoy their football.
