I am so pleased to be able to give a final update on our recently concluded fund raising venture for the refurbishment of the two rugby pitches at Bromyard RFC.

The fund raising appeal was launched on the 'Go Fund Me' online platform and proved to be a resounding success in as much that £6,170 was pledged.

Myself and fellow BRFC committee members are overwhelmed by the response from those who so kindly and generously contributed to the cause, more especially so in the current situation dominated by the COVID 19 pandemic when many who pledged money did so whilst undoubtedly experiencing uncertainty over their own present and post COVID financial situations.

It was heart warming to see donations rolling in from past players, friends and associates of our club including one very generous £500 from a past player now resident in Australia.

It would be very unfair of us to pick out and identify individual donators, as who is to judge that £20 pledged by one is not felt any less as hard in the pocket as another who may be able to pledge 10 times that amount without undue concern. Regardless to say every penny pledged has been most gratefully received.

However it would also be wrong not to highlight the value of some of the larger donations received including that of £5,000 by a long standing club benefactor, and £600 towards the purchase of stone for the drainage process by another local farmer and club supporter.

The fund raising target of £25,000 was initially calculated as that what would be required to undertake the drainage project for both pitches, but after some skilled negotiations by our Vice Chairman Andy Ralph we were able to reduce the amount required by almost £10,000 and local contractors namely Messrs T J & R J Philpotts and Co were handed the task of the pitch renovations which they set about with undue delay a few weeks ago.

By the end of the first week the trenching, pipe laying and infill with stone on the first team pitch was completed and by the end of the second week the second team pitch had also received the same treatment. All that remained was follow up work with a sub soiler to complete the heavy machinery work.

It would be appropriate at this stage to mention where the remainder of the money received came from to enable the contractors to start so promptly.

Of the £6,170 pledged on the 'Go Fund Me' site, after their admin fees we received £5,967.

Our local Authority kindly allocated a £10,000 grant to the Bromyard Sports Foundation which Bromyard RFC is a member of, and we are indebted to them to be allocated £5,000 of this money towards the funding.

A further grant of £1,700 was secured from the RFU.

Bromyard archery club, fellow members of the Bromyard Sports Foundation have an amicable arrangement with BRFC to use the pitch(s) for Archery activities. We are most grateful to them for their very kind gesture of a £1000 donation.

As a result of our considerable success in reducing the expected cost of the works, coupled with a sooner than anticipated achieving of our reduced target of £17,000 we decided not to draw further on the good will and generosity of the friends of BRFC and we closed the funding site down earlier than anticipated.

All that it leaves me to say is thank you one and all for your fantastic support you have afforded to Bromyard RFC, and I do hope you will be able to come along once we are able to commence matches and see for yourselves the quality of the playing surface of the both pitches which you will undoubtedly have contributed towards.

Many thanks indeed.

Chairman

Bromyard RFC pitch drainage organized by Robert Ralph

Dear Friends

We would like to thank everyone who has kindly donated to our fundraiser in what remains difficult and uncertain times for everyone. We are pleased to say that after refining our quotes, the cost of the work was less than what we anticipated and following the receipt of various grants and a large donation by a kind benefactor we have now reached our target and we are closing the fund raising page. We are looking for the work to commence during June and we will keep all club members updated as to the progress of the work.

Once again the club cannot thank everyone enough for their kind support.

We hope to see you at the club in the near future to enjoy a game of rugby and a pint.

Regards.

Thanks all for the donations so far. This bank holiday weekend we have 2 events happening:
Firstly some of the men’s senior team are going to be running a self isolation half marathon.
Second one is the 4 members of the ladies senior team running their isolation relay.
If we could get some more donations to help up reach our goal and support all that are running these events this weekend we would be very grateful.

Also we have our U14s doing a rolling marathon. They have been set to complete the miles for a marathon over the course of a few weeks. Please show your support to everyone doing these fundraisers and leave a message of support with your donations.

Thanks,

Bromyard Rugby Club Social Distancing Half Marathon

Before Covid-19 stopped all sport, we had the worst weather for years, which caused the local sports pitches to be barely useable.
At Bromyard rugby club we are trying to improve our drainage to allow games to be played all year through for all age groups.
As we can’t currently host any fundraisers at the club, some of the senior players are starting the fundraising push during lockdown by trying to complete a half marathon on 24th May.

Below is is the link to our GoFundMe page. Any donations or sponsorship would be greatly appreciated especially as there are so many charities deserving of donations right now.
