Before reaching for the spray bottle, pause and look at what is already working in your garden.

Dragonflies hunt mosquitoes and other flying insects. Ladybugs and their larvae feed on aphids. Spiders capture flies, moths, and many other small creatures that might otherwise multiply unchecked.

A healthy garden is not a sterile garden. It is a living ecosystem where predators, pollinators, plants, and even some pests exist together. Spraying every insect you see can also eliminate the helpful species providing free, natural pest control.

This does not mean ignoring a serious infestation. It means identifying the insect, watching the level of damage, and using targeted treatment only when it is genuinely needed.

Spray less. Observe more. Give nature a chance to do some of the work.

Zero waste week and a great way to start the academic year by welcoming our first residential schools of the autumn. We always welcome every group including telling them about the Zero heroes food waste competition.

All in aid of charity we have devised a challenging extended assault course through the whole of Mill on the Brue!
