🫱🏻 A PLAICE IN NORTH DEVON 🫲🏻

Ben from the shop has been scaling the tackle right down recently, scratching around with size 2 hooks and lighter setups, using ragworm, frozen black lug and squid-tipped baits in search of some of the smaller species — with a plaice or turbot as the main target.

🎯 First cast, a few small rattles on the rod tip and then… fish on! A cracking, well-conditioned plaice hit the beach — not a species you see all that often along the North Devon coast! 🧡

🎣 LURE FISHING THROUGH AUTUMN & WINTER 🎣

Don’t put the lures away just yet! Lure fishing can produce right the way through the autumn and winter months. 🌊

The ground he’s fishing is very similar to what we have along the North Cornish coast, so if you’re looking to give winter lure fishing a go, it’s definitely worth a watch! 👀🎣

👀 SMALLEYEDS GALORE! 👀🎣

Ben from the shop managed to squeeze in a session targeting Smalleyeds recently, while helping Sean hunt down his first-ever shore-caught small-eyed ray — and it certainly didn’t disappoint! 💥

Around 20 rays came to the beach, with the photo below showing a few of the better fish from the session. Nothing huge this time, but with the local ray fishing really starting to come alive, it surely won’t be long before some bigger females start showing! 👌🏻

If you’re looking to target rays locally, we’re always happy to help. From conditions, tides and weather patterns to finding the right holding grounds, pop into the shop and have a chat with the lads — we’ll point you in the right direction. 🎣

All the rays were caught using Take Me Out Fishing Dongle Rigs, baited with our fully stocked sandeel, squid and prawn 🦐🦑

🎣 IMPORTANT UPDATE – MONDAY CLOSING 🎣

After giving it a lot of thought, We’ve decided that going forward, the shops will be CLOSED on Mondays.

There are a couple of simple reasons behind the decision.

Firstly, our staff work incredibly hard and deserve a proper break. With us choosing to open on Sundays, closing on a Monday gives everyone a chance to recharge.

Secondly, We feel being OPEN SUNDAYS is far more useful to our customers – especially those wanting to grab bait or tackle and get out fishing at the weekend. 🎣

So from now on:

MONDAY – CLOSED ❌
TUESDAY–SATURDAY – 9AM–5PM ✅
SUNDAY – 9AM–1PM ✅

Thank you as always for your continued support of both shops. It genuinely means a lot to us.
