Budleigh U18s 8 - 1 Okehampton Argyle U18s
Back to winning ways ….
After last weeks upset it was vital the boys approached today with the confidence they’ve showed throughout pre season. It’s clear the group are still gelling, and getting used to the new style of coaching etc… Okehampton today were an unknown opponent…
And from the start seemed to be a group of hard working strong on the ball players…. We had to soaked up alot of pressure early on but was clear once we hit them on the break they couldn’t live with our movement. Alfie slotted our first home against the run of play in fact, however that was all we needed to boost the confidence, there after we broke through the lines and moved the ball around freely with real attacking intent . Our new number 9 Will slotted one home in the first half aswell as assisting in 2/3 or the other first half goals. Rueben once again used his athletism to stretch their defence several times and was also rewarded with a goal in both half’s … once we had 3 goal buffer we made the changes giving us some fresh legs going up hill at Greenway lane… all of which made instant impacts…. Louis on the left was under pressure from the off and dealt with his much larger opponent with class, pulling off a couple excellently timed tackles …. Cam gave us his usual energy , he was later rewarded with a goal himself. Riley was big and strong in midfield allowing Issac to be more creative … and Bobby was a menace in the attack , fighting for every ball and putting their big centre backs under alot of pressure. Holden replaced the ever consistent Frank and was straight to it …. Using his fresh legs to get up and down the touch line ….
The second half started much like the first half being a little slow and Oke had new found energy after the break …. But wasn’t long before we found out flow and Reuben popped up with another followed by a screamer from today MOTM Will Standen … finishing with 2 goals and 3 assists from an unfamiliar role, but today he executed it perfectly. The joy for us as coaches is having so many hungry and talented players that can play a host of positions…. 8-1 win and the disappointment of last week is all but forgotten.
Quiet day for Ryan in goal but when called open he was ready for the challenge and has developed his kicking somewhat of late…. It also seems there is a new found confidence at the back with Finely Jarman playing that no nonsense Centre back role …. And was rewarded today with the captains armband …. Great leadership from our relatively new signing …
So much more to come from this group of boys…
