Happy Ganesh Chaturthi! 🐘🐁🎂
Today and for the next ten days we celebrate Ganeshas birth & the wisdom within his symbolism.
Ganesha's Elephant Head = wisdom, strength and gentleness. True strength doesn’t need to be forceful.
His Ears = the wisdom to listen deeply, to others, nature and to your intuition, heart and deep truth within.
His small eyes = focus clear sighted, honest and kind attention. Look within. See things for what they are, beyond distraction and illusion.
His trunk = adaptability and discernment as life (and one's ego) is always twisting and turning!
His belly = the ability to digest life in all its size, the sweet and the bitter, pleasure and pain, without losing our centre.
His broken tusk = the courage to embrace imperfection, surrender and sacrifice. Sometimes we must let go to grow.
His axe, noose & goad = cuts through attachment, ego and old patterns, reminding us what we need to release to overcome the mind trap of dwelling on the past.
His lotus, sweets & books teach us to remain with pure intention, tasting sweetness in life and to stay centred while living amongst the challenges of the world, ever learning, evolving, growing.
& last but not least!
Ganesha's mouse = his vehicle! 😂
The tiny mouse represents the restless, curious, wandering mind = always moving, craving, searching and jumping from one thought to another.
Yet Ganesha doesn’t destroy the mouse he rides it.
What a beautiful teaching for Yoga and meditation!
We don’t have to fight the mind.
We learn to become aware of it.
We learn to guide it.
We learn not to be carried away by it but to befriend it.
Perhaps this is the deeper meaning of Lord Ganesh being the remover (and placer) of obstacles =
Not simply asking for our obstacles to disappear, but developing the wisdom to understand how and why they were created (mostly by our own minds) and how to grow from life's lessons.
May Ganesha remind us to cultivate all these qualities with an open heart for life's journey = Wisdom, strength, compassion, focus, discernment, acceptance and a quieter mind! 🙏🏼
