Hatters FC Vets 0–4 Rainhill FC Vets
North West Friendly Match Report
Hatters FC Vets went into this friendly looking to get back to winning ways following a disappointing result in their previous game. However, despite a bright start from the Hatters, it was the visitors who showed their organisation and took control of the game.
Hatters started brightly and looked to get on the front foot, but Rainhill proved difficult to break down and took the lead in the first half. With half-time approaching, the visitors struck again to leave Hatters with a 2–0 deficit at the break.
With the result in mind, Hatters made a few changes at half-time to give the lads some valuable minutes on the pitch. The team continued to battle and created a few opportunities of their own, but unfortunately, we just couldn't find that finishing touch in front of goal.
A few costly mistakes, combined with some clinical finishing from Rainhill, saw the visitors add two more goals to their tally, leaving the final score at 4–0.
Not the result we wanted, but the scoreline didn't tell the whole story. At times, the game felt much closer than the final score suggests, and there were positives to take despite the disappointment. That said, it's been nearly 12 months since Hatters last failed to score in a game — a statistic we'd certainly like to keep intact, so we'll be looking to put that right in our next outing!
A big thank you to Rainhill FC Vets for making the trip over. We appreciate you coming down and look forward to making the return journey for the game at your place in the future.
The Hatters will now turn their attention to the Vets Cup, where Pennington FC await. We'll regroup, learn from this one and look to bounce back in the cup!
Man of the Match: Danny Foster
Despite conceding four goals, Danny pulled off some magnificent saves throughout the game. Without his efforts between the sticks, the scoreline could have been a lot more, and he thoroughly deserves the Man of the Match award.
