✨Why are we called Sukha Wellness?✨

We are a Yoga and Pilates studio, but we are also so much more than that!


I have over 3 decades of experience and qualifications teaching movement, Yoga and Pilates, and I will always say how important it is to regularly move your body safely and within your capabilities.

But, all these years of experience have taught me that there is so much more going on beyond the mat that affects the results each individual client will see and feel.

Stress, sleep, diet, lifestyle- all will play their part in your overall wellness, and it is overall wellness that I am really interested in.

I want to help you feel your most well self.

That’s why I developed the Sukha Wellness System- classes that don’t just focus on how you move, but how you breathe, how you think, how you feel.

I have classes specifically devised to settle a stressed nervous system, or release tight fascia, or calm an anxious mind.

I offer sound healing therapy that utilises sound vibration frequencies to boost overall wellness.

I now have red light therapy available, that heals the body at a cellular level.

I also offer Reiki along with my 1:1 personal training clients who have sessions uniquely tailored just for them, combining Yoga, Pilates, reformer Pilates and holistic therapies in order to cater to their individual wellness needs.

The Philosophy of Yoga has eight limbs.
These are eight guidances and practices for balanced life and wellness.

The first of the limbs are the Yama’s (the restraints) and the second the Niyama (the observances). These are our intentions and our actions, how we conduct ourselves in society. Before we even get on the mat.

Then the Asana (postures practice), the pranayama (Breathwork) practice, the pratayhara (the withdrawal of sensors).

The last limbs are all related to Meditation and Dharana – Concentration - The practice of focusing the mind on one point. This could be the breath, a mantra, a candle flame, or a point of awareness within the body. It is the beginning of learning to steady the fluctuations of the mind.
7. Dhyana – Meditation
When concentration becomes uninterrupted flow.
Rather than repeatedly bringing the mind back, awareness begins to rest naturally and continuously. There is a sense of ease, presence, and quiet observation.
8. Samadhi – Absorption / Union
The final limb.
A state of deep integration where the sense of separation softens. In yogic philosophy, this is described as union with pure consciousness — profound peace, clarity, and connection.

Many teachers describe the journey beautifully like this:

* Dharana — “I am focusing.”
* Dhyana — “I am meditating.”
* Samadhi — “Only the meditation remains.”

These final three limbs together are sometimes referred to as Samyama, the inward path of deep meditative awareness.

They fit so naturally with the atmosphere you create within Sukha Wellness Shala — moving from movement and breath into stillness, awareness, and ultimately a feeling of coming home to oneself.

Yoga is not just movement, Yoga is how we live with intention, how we serve and how we honour our surroundings.

I saw a post recently and thought: this is me…

As a woman who has moved, trained, practised yoga, and taken care of her body for most of her life, I have come to a place where I feel proud of ageing naturally.

. .

I haven’t had alcohol for more than 6 years — through weddings, funerals, new grandchildren, special birthdays, celebrations, and life’s tender moments, where once I may have raised a glass or so.

Not from judgement. Simply from a deeper commitment to my health, my body, my mind, and the way I want to live as I grow older.

. .

Life has not always been easy.

. .

I lost my husband suddenly — my childhood soulmate from the age of 14 years ( he was 15) — and grief changed me deeply.

There were times I could barely see a way forward, yet somehow I still had to stay strong for my children through both heartbreak and celebration.

. .

That lived experience stays with you.
It softens you.
It humbles you.
It shapes your face too.

. .

For me, wellness isn’t just exercise. It is food, movement, rest, yoga, what I put on my skin, what I use in my home, and how I honour this stage of life.

And as I age, I feel more and more committed to representing a real ageing face.

Not a face trying to look 25 again.

A face that has lived.
A face that has felt joy and grief.
A face that has loved deeply.
A face that tells the truth.

We don’t see enough real ageing faces online — especially women’s faces.

So this is mine.



No judgement of anyone else’s choices. Just a quiet pride in choosing to age with honesty, health, strength, softness, and grace.

Embracing the Sunshine -
- and battling the strong breeze

A variation on the Sun Salutation, Surya Namaskar B, with Vasisthasana B- the side plank with lifted leg.

Vasisthasana B is an advanced asana that challenges balance and flexibility. It increases lateral body strength, improves balance, engages and strengthens the core, and stretches the hamstrings…trying to execute it whilst bracing against a strong breeze brought its own added difficulty.

The Sun Salutation Surya Namaskar B offers gratitude to the Sun for all that it does for us and the Planet.

Yoga outdoors often adds an added sense of calm and gratitude, feeling natures elements as we move our bodies, bettering our physical and mental wellness.
