Today is the Autumn Equinox: a point of balance between light and dark.
This particular seasonal transition this year has me thinking alot about how we can often turn a new seasons into a list of things we should be doing.
As autumn arrives, we are told it’s time to let go, shed, release. But if we turn to nature as our guide more, because actually, she doesn’t rush to achieve those things.
You only have to take a walk through somewhere like the Parkland at Calke Abbey at this time of year to be reminded of the true lesson of nature.
All of those big old trees, all so different. Some still green, some beginning to turn, some already golden, and some letting their leaves fall. Each one on its own journey.
I actually think there’s something really freeing about standing amongst them and being reminded that, just like trees, we are all different, and we all transition in our own time and own way.
So perhaps the equinox, and this time around it is more of a chance to pause and notice:
🍁 What has changed for you this year?
🍁 What are you noticing right now?
🍁 Is there something you’re rushing that might need more time?
🍁 What are you ready to make space for?
🍁 And perhaps most importantly, what if you trusted your own timing?
You don’t have to suddenly let go just because autumn has arrived. You can take your time!
There’s something about those trees at Calke, the changing parkland and the slow rhythm of the season that makes you want to pause and notice.
And in a couple of weeks, I’ll be back at Calke for our Autumn Day Retreat, spending a whole day leaning into exactly that; moving, being in nature, slowing down and making space to reflect.
The details are in the link in my bio if you’d like to join.
