Update on my cancer treatment
I have decided that I will not teach weekly dance classes until at least 2026.
I hope I will be back to full health and fitness by the Autumn but I will have so much to build back up.
Thanks for all your good wishes and support - they mean a lot xx
Hi ladies, a quick update on my cancer treatment. I'm glad to say that the second operation got rid of all the cancer but it had spread further than originally expected so I will be having both chemotherapy and radiotherapy and the treatment will last for at least six months.
So I won't be able to commit to teaching until at least the end of the year
Hello lovely dancing ladies of Bury!
Thanks for your patience while I'm going through tretment for brest cancer, I'm still hoping to be back to dancing soon!
I had a second operation a month ago to remove all my lymph nodes from under my arm and more breast tissue and I'm seeing my consultant on Wednesday (5/3) for an update on whether that successfully got rid of all the nasty cancer cells.
Fingers crossed it has and I'll then be having radiotherapy and medication to stop this coming back.
I'm mending well, though I'm still tired, and I'm not likely to be up to teaching for at least another few weeks, but I'll keep you updated about my progress.
Happy new year and lots of fabulous wishes for 2025 to all our dancers, followers and wonderful women of Bury!
Keep an eye on this page for information about the restart date, time and venue for the class.
I’m in for breast surgery on Friday 3 January but, fingers crossed, the surgeon gets all the nasty cancer cells out and I can be back dancing with you all as soon as possible!
Hi ladies, I hope you're enjoying these last few days before Christmas.
This is an update re our new venue and time for 2025. We will be moving to Bury Grammar School Dance Studio, still on Thursdays but a bit earlier - 7.15 to 8.15pm
Some of you already know that I had an appointment a few weeks ago at the Breast Clinic regarding a suspicious lump in my breast.
About 10 days ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Thankfully, it's small, it's been caught early and it's not aggressive. But it needs to come out and I'll need a few radiotherapy treatments so our class will be a bit later starting back afterwards.
I'm booked in for surgery on 3 January and I won't be allowed to drive for four weeks afterwards so I have asked Bury Grammar School Lettings team to start the class towards the end of February just after half-term.
I'll update you and and I'll text everyone in the new year so those people who aren't on Facebook know too.
I'm in very good hands and I know several women who have had the same diagnosis and treatment and are now very well, so although I'm apprehensive, I'm not worried.
Katy x
Well lovely ladies, tomorrow (5 Dec) is our last class of the year and we're having a party!
Usually start at 8 with warm up and a few drills then we'll dance along to some of our usual routines and a few new ones.
Hope to see you all there but if not, we're back on 23 January at Bury Grammar School from 7.15
Hi ladies, sorry I couldn’t be with you tonight - I don’t know how much Sam told you but I spent this morning at the breast clinic being x-rayed and ultrasounded and, latterly, having a very uncomfortable biopsy of a lump deep in my breast.
So, apart from the psychological effects, the local anaesthetic has now warn off and it’s quite painful so dancing tonight wasn’t really the best idea.
But, I’ll see you next week for a Christmas party!
Class tonight is cancelled because of the snow - i don’t know how much there will be or whether it will stick or freeze so better safe than sorry!
Back to normal next week when the forecast is for the usual rain!
Hello lovely ladies! I’m delighted to report that we raised £365 for Cystic Fibrosis Trust on Sunday at the Shake and Bake!
Woohoo!
Thanks to everyone who came, gave raffle prizes, baked or bought cake, danced and cheered on the dancers.
Our lovely henna artist, Sonya, donated a voucher for an Indian Head Massage to the tombola but no one won it! So, I’m going to run a limited number raffle for it. Sonya is a qualified and experienced massage therapist who works in Bury and the voucher is valid for a year.
So, on Thursday I will bring a card of 30 numbers, it’s £1 per number and, when the card is full, I’ll draw the winner!
See you all later at Bury Polish Club for a wonderful wiggle!
