๐Ÿ””Senior Results๐Ÿ””

Date: Sunday 7th June

After getting out Saturday without any Rain, Sunday emerged with grey skies and wild wind.

Kipping off the double header at home, the Ladies fixture against Leigh CC began with the coin falling their way and Elton having a bat.
Early trouble with the bat from the opening pair was followed up with a fightback in the 2nd led by Hannah Kent as she scored 14 off 17 and hit 3 boundaries.
Leigh CC's bowlers were finding regular wickets and put the pressure on the 3rd partnership for Elton.
The Strongest batting Pair for Elton came in to CLose out the innings as Rachael White and Skipper Caitlyn Hunter combined for 18 off of their 4 overs and bringing the total score to 65/8.

Out into the field and Elton started strong, restricting the opening partnership to just 4 runs.
Continuing on with their strong start against the first pair, Elton showed considerable resistance to the 2nd also, holding them to only 7.
Two wickets to Caitlyn and a single to Siobhan Mulrooney were the highlights of the opening two partnerships as the Ladies held strong.
Leigh came together in their two final partnerships, only conceding a single wicket in each as they built their score to 97/6 after their allotted 16 overs.
Result: Leigh CC Won by 42 Runs

For the 2nd game of the day at Leigh Lane, it was time for the 3s to continue their Cup Campaign
Greenfield CC called correctly (Foreshadowing at its finest) and opted to have a bowl with ideal conditions for the new ball looming overhead.
Enter Sam Smith and Muneeb Tahir to kick off proceedings and Sam went Bang early.
Putting Greenfield on the back foot early, Sam was here for a good time but not a long time. Facing just 18 balls in which he hit 5x4's and made his way to 30 it came to an end with a mix up between himself and his opening partner in which Sam was run out.
Following another wicket shortly after Muneeb continued with his brother Ammar as he brought up 43 off of 54 balls (5x4's) before being bowled in the 18th over.
Looking to get in on the action, Dave Sewell stepped up to the plate and batted with Ammar to produce a 52 partnership.
Dave and Ammar struck strong through the field and embraced familiarity as they relived many opening partnerships shared throughout the 2025 season, Ammar Reaching his first Senior 50 for the season as Dave composed 24 off 30 with 3x4's at 141/4.
Losing another quick wicket as the weather turned and produced troubling batting conditions, Al Stephens got stuck in to work through the rain but was caught in front and adjudged LBW.
With the Conditions turning unfavourable, The Umpires called for the covers at the close of the 36th over and play stopped.
Calling the Innings at 36 overs due to time lost, Elton's batting score became 176/6 as the game froze and the rain got settled in for the rest of the day.
Being a cup Match and needing a winner the next option became a bowl out. The conditions were assessed and even then it still proved to be too dangerous even for that.
Resorting to a coin toss to produce a winner, Skipper Mark Burns tossed it high, Greenfield CC called "Heads" and Elton's Cup competition for the 2026 season came to an end.
A disappointing way for the Cup to end for the 3s, but the weather proved too great to beat after a strong batting performance.
Result: Greenfield CC Win

Over at Woodbank CC, the 4's had organised a friendly in place of no league fixture.
Deciding to go with the "Tails Never Fails" approach at the advice of a teammate, James Richardson called such at the toss of the coin, It was Heads.
With a few late changes to the side, Elton headed out and Ibrahim Hashmi got the party started early as a catch was skied to Ben Richardson.
It didn't take long for Ibrahim to strike again, just 2 balls later he found the Stumps and Bowled the no.3.
Looking to get in on the action, James Forrest found his mark as one of his deliveries hit found Ather Uthman at backward square leg.
Caitlyn continued her promising opening spell as she also picked up a wicket, Skied to Mid Wicket and Ben Richardson proving a safe pair of hands once again.
James had the swinging ball worked out and beat the block as he swung a ball from off stump to leg as he picked up his 2nd wicket.
Hassan Furmod came to wickets column as he found the stumps in the 17th over and then with the no.4 digging in, cut him short of his 50 with a caught and bowled in the 25th.
Ben Richardson got his turn with the ball and after a few overs of tap from the no.8 batter, made his mark as the no.9 skied a ball and sent WK Tom Frost running backwards to provide safe hands.
Closing out the Innings was Kai Ryan as he picked up 2 Wickets with a catch to Skipper James Richardson in the 30th and then a well bowled ball collecting the leg stump in the 34th bringing the innings to a close at 138 All Out.
Like the 3's down the road, the 4s felt the wrath of Mother Nature.
With Frosty and Ben Richardson waiting in their gear for the rain to ease, it just never happened.
A Consultation between Captain's and Umpires brought the fixture to an end, as the rain persisted.
Result: Match Abandoned

Thats the write up for the Weekends fixtures, Beginning tonight at The Heys, Our Elton Rifles 2nd Team continue their T20 Campaign against the Prestwich Patriots from 6:00pm!

๐Ÿ””Senior Results๐Ÿ””

Date: Saturday 6th June

Saturday Morning arrived with watchful eyes on the forecasted weather for the day as 1s and 2s prepared to take on their league fixtures.

At Home with 1st Team, Skipper Chris Barlow won the toss and opted to have first roll with the ball against Milnrow CC.
The Dynamic Duo of Grundy and Farley were on song from the 1st over as economic first spells from the pair yielded an early wicket in the 9th over with safe hands from Boothy.
The No.3 Batter for the opposition dug in, looking to negotiate the openers as he faced out 26 balls before he fell, once again to the bowling of Grundy and the hands of Boothy.
With an Opening batsmen still at the crease, the Pro came in at No.4 to deliver the highest partnership of 68.
Amassing 59 before Farley struck for his first wicket of the day, Boothy still was looking lively in the field as he had J Wynn run out short of his ground.
Striking in quick Succession, Grundy picked up his 3rd before Gaz Edwards came to the party as he picked up a wicket off the 1st and 3rd ball of the 39th over.
In the 43rd over, Grundy came back for his second spell and removed the Pro for a 85 off 84 balls.
Closing out the innings, Alfie picked up 2 wickets as he set his sights on the tail order and finished Milnrow's Innings on 179 all out.
With a chase of 180 in the sights of Elton CC, Johnny Birkett and Corey Sewell headed out to begin and both were patient early.
Upon Building an opening partnership of 35, Milnrow seized their first wicket as Cory was removed.

Bringing Obaid to the wicket, Johnny shortly followed Corey as he was caught out for 35.
Asif Zakir and Obaid came together in the middle for 2nd wicket and Asif got his eye in early as he built his innings on patience and carefully measured strokes.
Coming and going, Asif had 3 partnerships while he had his time in the middle, 37 With Pro Obaid Shahid, 41 With his Skipper but his strongest came with Farley.
Top Scoring on the day, Asif brought up a 50 and then continued on to the highest individual score for Elton of the game, 78 off 85 balls (5x4's, 4x6's)
Continuing an impressive streak of cameos with the bat, Farley worked through the bowlers on his way to 23 off 26 with a single four and then to put the icing on the cake, a maximum to finish the game in the 46th over.
Result: Elton CC Won by 6 Wickets

Off to Denton West the 2s went and Andy Donnelly called correctly and opted for a bat.
Matthew Ward and Tom Frost walked out with the whipping wind and scored from ball 1. Early trouble appeared as Frosty was removed for 12 in the 6th over as he skied the ball, bringing Harry Wolfenden to the crease.
Producing the strongest partnership for the 2s for the day (59 Runs), Wolfy and Wardy played strong shots and ran hard as they lifted the score to 82/2 as Wardy was adjudged LBW, bringing an end to his innings of 35 off 62 with 4x4's.
With Matt Hall at the crease, Wolfy found the fielder at cover as the 2s found themselves in a tough period.
Hall striking strong and running hard as he formed a small partnership with Ryan Kent of 23.
Losing 2 wickets with the score at 129, Skipper and Vice (Jack Smith) stuck out the later overs and came out with 36 between them.
Batting out the overs and yielding 179/9, the 2s knew it would be a fight and headed out to defend their total.

Andy Ryan Struck early, just 4 balls into his first over as Frosty held onto a catch at mid wicket.
Keeping the runs down, the 2s put the pressure onto Denton West as Andy trapped the other opener in front for LBW.
From there however, The 2s had plenty of work left to do.
The No.3 and 4 for Denton West dug in and produced a 71 partnership for the 3rd wicket despite accurate spin from Charlie Curtis.
To break the partnership, Along came Ryan Kent finding the off stump to dismiss the Wicket Keeper and bringing the score to 106/3.
Jack Smith came on bowling his spin and beat the bat many times as he tested out the Opposition. Finding purchase and catching the no.5 off balance, Smith combined with Harry Wolfenden behind the wicket to stump M.Aziz on 23 off 27.
With the score at 138/3 and 18 overs left to go, Denton retook control as they pushed the score closer and closer to the target despite Elton's best efforts.
With one final blow to strike, Tom Hyland hit the stumps and removed the set no.6 who sought to finish the game prematurely.
Playing patiently the no.4 for Denton had made his way to 66 before hitting a 2 and closing out the game in the 45th over.
Result: Denton West CC Won by 5 Wickets

What started as a day in which rain and delays looked certain, produced a great day of cricket as the sun shone through the forecast.

The Match reports for the 3's, 4's and Ladies will be out later tonight!
