Rochdalians AFC⚽️Defeat In The Semi Final⚽️

The lads travelled up to Spring Hill Playing Fields for the second time this season to play in our first semi final competition.

The lads starting off well creating a few chances but couldn’t put the ball in the net. Around 10mins before the end of the half Rochdalians fought back showing us why they are one of the top sides in the competition.

0-0 HT

The lads started the 2nd half well defending when needing too and creating another good set of chances.

However disaster struck when Crofty (George Wolstencroft) was deemed to have brought down a man in the box which resulted in the hosts making it 1-0 from the spot off the post.

Rochdalians carried on applying the pressure and the lads sadly couldn’t get back into the game, with just a few minutes left in the game the hosts doubled there lead with a well stopped shot by Ryan Whittle but the hosts were quick on the rebound to tap it home.

A disappointing result for the lads but they definitely gave it there all for the full 90 minutes.

We would like to thank AFC Rochdalians for a great competitive game and all the best of luck for the final.

We would highly encourage and be grateful for anyone who turns up to cheer the lads on this Sunday as we take on AFC Rochdalians in our cup semi final. We are currently in 2 cup competitions so it would be amazing to reach the final of 1 this early on!

Last time it was a highly entertaining battle which we unfortunately came out 3-2 losers but a performance that Boards was impressed with!

⚽️Heartbreak at Hollinhurst⚽️

The lads were back in Lancashire Cup action this week so it was bound to be an exciting game and so it was! Our visitors had the chance to go 1-0 up but an excellent clearance from Tom Law kept it goalless. A few minutes after Dylan Wright played an inside through ball to Ethan Ayra to lay off to James Earl who bent his effort perfectly into to the top corner. Unfamiliar territory for the lads as we took the lead for the first time in a while this season. However unfortunately just before the break our visitors equalised by putting a low ball into the box for there attacker to tap it in from close range not much the keeper could do to save it tidy finish.

10 minutes into the 2nd half our visitors took the lead when there attacker placed a finish just under Ryan’s reach in the goal. Both sides were having there chances and possession but both sides where struggling to find the back of the net. Things got worse for Radcliffe as there visitors put a dangerous cross into the box resulted in a goal mouth scramble unfortunately leading it for it to fall to 1 of there lads on the six yard box to smash it home from a very tight angle.

However the lads never game up when Ethan Ayra found George Yates to smash home to get us back into it at 3-2. The lads work effort was incredible as they were hungry for that all important equaliser. And we got it! An effort from George Yates again which the keeper saved close to the line our lads were appealing it went in.. the ref blew his whistle goal awarded we weren’t sure from the sideline but the referee makes the final decision. Both sides had chances to win it but the full time whistle went and unfortunately we crashed out on sudden death of the shootout.

⚽️Struggling Away From Home⚽️

2 weeks since this fixture was played but a disappointing result for the lads, a very stop start game on an astroturf pitch made us struggle. Our hosts took the lead from a header at the back post in the first half. 10 minutes into the second half they extended there lead from a quick fire counter attack making it 2-0.

The lads managed to get 1 back when George Yates received the ball from a clearance from a corner, in which he drove into the box and got taken out. No questions needed if it was a penalty or not!
Up stepped Ben Stephenson who calmly placed it past the keeper. The lads struggled to get an equaliser on the board but had plenty of chances to do so but sadly we weren’t clinical enough again.

We’d like to thank our hosts for hosting us and look forward to welcoming them to Hollinhurst later on in the season!
