Today was something brand new for me as I delivered my first Melodies & Memories session at with adults with additional needs. And what an afternoon it was- I loved it!

We created our own dance floor in the middle of the space and there were some serious shapes thrown 💃🏻🕺🏻 The ladies & gents were brilliant with the reminiscence activities- a young lady called Gemma guessed Elvis Presley straight away before seeing the photo properly! And we had a wonderful time waving our rainbow ribbons and shaking our musical instruments 🪇

They were such a friendly group and made me feel incredibly welcome, I even had Dan offering to walk me to the door then thanked me very much for coming- an absolute gent 🫶🏼

After having taught dance and singing for many years, I still find it incredible to see how people respond to music and movement in their own, individual way, and express themselves through the music.

I left with a big smile, a happy heart, and feeling inspired by this wonderful group of people 💚

Thank you so much to Michelle and the team for having me today 😌

Wonderfully kind words that make my week 🫶🏼 Thank you Debbie and the team at I always look forward to my visits to sing and dance with your lovely residents.

It’s made even more special because I used to go and visit with my primary school when I was a little girl. We would sing Christmas songs and I seem to remember performing a harvest festival play too (hope that wasn’t too painful for the residents to endure 😂)

I am passionate about creating and delivering the best singing & movement sessions possible for care & residential home residents and their carers, as it is what you all deserve ✨

Every song selected, dance step choreographed, prop chosen- it’s all been thought through very carefully (I’m an overthinker at the best of times but creating this syllabi was something else 😅) to ensure that the sessions I bring to you all are of the highest quality.

To know that both care setting teams and their residents enjoy my sessions is literally music to my ears 🎶🥰

Thank you to every home who chooses Melodies & Memories- it means the world.

Last week was Dementia Action Week and we had a beautiful week with sessions at Starmount Villa, Abbeywood Care Home, Rose Court Care Home, and Long Stone Manor 🎶

Did you know our sessions are dementia friendly? As well as our group singing to help with speech, and chair-based exercise to help with muscle memory, we also incorporate reminiscence activities to enhance cognitive function 💭

I love to help bring little moments of fun and joy to residents living with dementia during my sessions 😊

Here are just some of the things you’ll never catch me saying to residents living with dementia….

🗣️ “You’ve told me that before”
🗣️ “You know me, I come here every week”
🗣️ “You can’t go home because you live here”
🗣️ “I haven’t got time to listen to your story”
🗣️ “Have you really forgotten who sang this song?”

My nanna’s vascular dementia caused her to repeat herself, ask who we were, mention wanting to go home, and constantly worry about money/ her handbag to name a few things. It can be so tiring to answer those same questions, and use the same words to offer reassurance over and over, especially when you are dealing with the emotional impact of your loved one asking those questions in the first place.

Living through my nanna’s dementia journey helped me hugely to understand why people living with dementia say what they say and do what they do.

I pride myself on showing as much patience, empathy, and compassion as I possibly can during my sessions with your residents living with dementia. And I will ALWAYS stay for a story- even if I’ve heard it so many times before. Sometimes a smiling face, a safe space and a listening ear can make a big difference ❤️

Put your favourite song on, turn it up, and DANCE- your mind, body, and soul will thank you for it 👯‍♀️
