Returning for its fourth yearโฆ Hike or Run the epic Monument Marathon!
This challenging 27 mile loop connects six historic Towers.
Mostly on trail paths, you'll pass through country parks, along waterways, and even on to Holcombe Moor as you check off the the following six iconic towers along the route:
๐ Grants Tower
๐ Tentering Tower
๐ Peel Tower
๐ Turton Tower
๐ Bradshaw Hall remains
๐ Radcliffe Tower
This event is simply about completing the distance with the camaraderie of other like-minded people around you โ there should be no desire to โbeatโ anyone or break any records and weโll have friendly guides who will be running / hiking the whole route with you to offer a supportive pep talk when required. However, we also wonโt be offended if you do want to push on ahead without us.

Peel Tower is the third out of six towers along the Monument Marathon route.
Built in 1852 to commemorate the life of Sir Robert Peel: It is 128 feet high with 148 steps with views, on a clear day, as far as Manchester, Cheshire and North Wales.
Twice Prime Minister, Peel's major accomplishments were establishing the police force and abolishing the corn laws.

Built in 1866 as part of Stubbins Vale Mill for drying newly made cloth.
Tentering is the process of stretching the newly made cloth and letting it dry out - this prevents the cloth from shrinking as it dries.
Heard of the phrase "on tenterhooks" that describes someone feeling pressure or unease? That phrase comes from this process.
This is the second of six towers that youโll pass along the Monument Marathon route.
