Bembridge Airfield, Isle of Wight
An alternative or additional stop to Sandown Airfield, this smaller airfield has The Propeller Inn with lots of outdoor seating and bus stop. Cross the road to take a short bus journey (or long walk) to Bembridge village where there are a number of restaurants, pubs, shops and library.
The sandy beach is about 10 mins walk from the village with cafe, harbour, floating restaurant and walks.
From the airfield in the other direction the bus goes to Sandown then change for Shanklin.
Pilot/passenger tip- keep to the pedestrian path to walk from aircraft to C/Inn where landing fee can be paid. Office maybe unmannned.

Wolverhampton Airfield - Halfpenny Green , West Midlands
After a 3 month building makeover there is now a very modern ‘Amelias’ bistro with ground and first floor, including balcony dining areas and bar. Also with the local (walkable) Halfpenny Green Vineyard wine selection and extensive menu.
Lots of interest here still with the Antiques/bric-à-brac building onsite and craft village up the road at the vineyard.

Oaksey Park Airfield, Wiltshire
Beautiful large Clubhouse and open aspect. No cafe here but light refreshments available and inside/outside areas to sit.
Bikes can be hired and accommodation rented very nearby. Nearest village to walk to is Oaksey with The Wheatsheaf Inn, about 25mins walk. Or 10 mins drive to The Bakers Arms.
Interesting hangars and regular police helicopter manoeuvres training.
Landing fee applies. Beautiful countryside.

Another Abbotts Bromley visit but this time a different place to visit with just a 10 mins walk.
Exit the airfield turning left then at the t-junction turn right (instead of visiting the village itself) and after about 100m (Goose Lane) there is a variety of country outlets all within one large courtyard area :-
Cobwebs Cafe inc Pizza oven, Cheese/Pie/Wine shops and an Antiques shop.
Note the Cobwebs isn’t open every day but there is another Teashop too!
Pilot/passenger tip - take a cool bag for purchases !

Plockton , Scottish Highlands.
Exit via gate adjacent to the hangar, the ‘On the Croft’ cafe/cabin has great burgers , coffee etc. and a little farm shop outlet. This is basically right next to the airstrip.
Continue walking, about 10-15 mins , past the school then downhill past the railway station and into the sea front village.
There are a couple of pubs, a chip shop and a small gift shop with coffee and sandwiches.
On the other side of the runway from the hangar (to the village walk) you will see a style, over this and across the road is a footpath to the ‘coral’ beach. About a 5-10 mins walk. The beach is really lovely with rocks out to sea and a very fine, broken coral sand.
Pilot tip - fuel available.
Passenger tip - No airfield toilet. Sea Food at The Plocton Inn very good. Visit the beach !
