Today is the day that the nights start to become longer than the days. This doesn't mean we can't get out in the mountains however it does mean we need to carry a headtorch... no your torch on your phone isn't good enough. It also means we need to have the ability to navigate accurately in the dark. Can you find your way off a mountain by the light of your headtorch? If not why not join us for a navigation course this autumn.

Here is why Climb Snowdonia started

Some of you may be interested to know why we chose to set up a company specialising in providing outdoor activities for people with a form of disability. Well we have always enjoyed taking people out on an adventure that they didn't think was possible, but a major factor was Cerys.

Cerys is Jess' little sister (who is now 20!) and she is severely autistic. As well as being Autistic and having ADHD, Cerys also has a rare genetic condition called Phelan-McDermid Syndrome. Cerys could never cope in a group setting but is was clear how much enjoyment she got from being outside, especially anything to do with water. Both Sam and Jess never tire of taking Cerys out and they both get a lot of satisfaction opening a whole new world to Cerys and anyone else who wants an adventure.

This has been the driving force behind Climb Snowdonia and the reason why we truly believe anyone and everyone can have an amazing adventure with us. Cerys is the reason we run our Additional Needs sessions. These are our accessibility sessions for anyone who requires more support.

In the final installment of our meet the team is Avalanche 😻

AKA ... the cat who always gets way more likes than the outdoor photos do 😹

Avalanche is our Storeroom Manager and our Senior Operational Manager (he got that promotion 3 years ago when he turned 7 - as a 'senior' cat!)

Avalanche is now 10 years old, and is known for sleeping on the job ALOT! Boxes and hairbands are his favourite things and Avalanche also enjoys sunbathing and exploring his local patch

Next up in our Meet the Team is Jess

Jess has been working in the Outdoor industry since 2013. She is equally as happy on the water, as she is on dry land ... although we all know she actually prefers to be in the water!

Jess loves working with family groups and participants with additional needs; introducing them to the Great Outdoors and showing them what is possible. When not working for Climb Snowdonia, Jess also loves to work on overseas expeditions and Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. Jess also has a part time job with the NHS, working for the Children's Complex Care team in the community.

Behind the scenes, Jess looks after the office, while Sam looks after the kit!

First up in our meet the team is Sam.

Sam is most at home in the mountains, whether this is climbing, running, mountaineering, skiing or mountain biking. The colder and snowier, the better. Sam has worked in the industry since 2009 and over the years has done a wide range of roles, from teaching people to enjoy the mountains in both summer and winter safely, taking people rock climbing, gorge walking, coasteering and every now and then paddling. He also trains and assess the Mountain Leader award, as well as leading overseas expeditions. The thing that Sam loves more than anything is introducing people to the wonderful outdoors and helping them gain the skills and confidence to safely enjoy the mountains.

This year we have gained lots of new followers, so it's time to do a series of posts to introduce us, the team and our inspiration

Founded in 2017, Climb Snowdonia is run by husband-and-wife team, Sam and Jess and we have always had a clear motto of

'Making Adventures Accessible for All'

We run a number of different courses but we are well known for our Family Adventure Days and specialise in our Additional Needs sessions. Whether you are neurodiverse, visually impaired, have physical or mobility impairments (and more), these sessions are for you.

We want everyone to be able to have access to the outdoors, so we went on a complicated journey and in 2024 re-registered as a Community Interest Company. This meant we could apply for funding and make our adventures financially accessible as well.

2025 was our first full year of funding for our Additional Needs sessions and boy, it was a busy year! Funding may come and go, but our enthusiasm and passion for the great outdoors doesn't!
