Last session of the week…a relaxing Sports Massage 😆.

The client came in complaining of achilles discomfort.

There are a number of reasons why the achilles would cause discomfort so it’s important to have a methodical testing process to be able to effectively treat injuries.

A quote I like to keep in mind when treating someone is, “where you think it is…it isn’t. Meaning that wherever the pain presents itself is rarely where the problem lies. Reinforcing the need to have robust testing.

In terms of flexibility I didn’t find a significant difference from one leg to the other, but what I did find was a significant difference in how much work was being performed by the posterior chain muscles.

I proceeded to treat the calf/achilles to reduce discomfort and help restore range of movement. I then prescribed exercises to make sure the posterior chain was working effectively.

[STRONGER] 6-week Strength Program

First week completed ✅. Everyone survived.

As you can see I didn’t manage to take many photos 😆 I was too busy teaching…but I will make an effort next week to take a few more photos so that those who are interested can see what we get up to.

Anyways, this week has been about setting up the structure, the template that we’ll be following for the next 6 weeks. As with any new program it’s important to get the basics right, and that’s true for experienced as well as novice builders!

🚨Starting this week🚨

The BRAND NEW “Stronger” 6 week lifting program for novices and intermediates alike.

Every year, the American College of Sports Medicine releases a fitness trends survey that outlines what it expects to be the top 10 fitness trends of the year.

Each year more than 3700 health and fitness professionals are asked to rank 42 possible trends on a scale of 1 to 10.

For the past 5 years Strength Training & Free Weights has been climbing and climbing. This year it has reached it current peak of 2nd most popular trend, and I fully expect it to reach 1st place on this list in 2024.

The benefits of strength training go far beyond simply making you stronger. Strength training will without doubt enhance your quality of life and improve your ability to do everyday activities.

Furthermore, strength training can also protect your joints from injury. Building muscle also can contribute to better balance and may reduce your risk of falls. This can help you maintain independence as you age.

Whatever fitness goals you have I can guarantee you strength training will only have a positive impact on them!

🚨 6-Week Lifting Program 🚨

Next Tuesday October 3rd I’ll be launching this new class.

The class will be aimed at the NOVICE to INTERMEDIATE lifter.

Class numbers are limited to 12 spaces, ideally I am looking for 6 males and 6 females to fill those spaces but spaces are first come first served.

The class will be held every Tuesday & Thursday 7pm till 8pm.

The class will keep going until christmas and beyond but due to holiday commitments this first block will only be 6 weeks.

How much will it cost?
- £60

Do you need previous experience?
- Absolutely not. This class is aimed to the novice to intermediate lifter.

What will you learn?
- As a personal trainer it’s my primary objective to teach you how to lift SAFELY & EFFECTIVELY, ego’s are left outside the front door at my gym! That being said, over time you will learn a lot more.
> You will learn how to train to burn fat more effectively (disclaimer: if you overeat you will not lose weight, don’t care what any other influencers say!!).
> You will learn what impact lifting with heavy vs lighter weights and with higher or lower repetitions has on your body.
> You will learn how lifting weights can impact your mental as well as your physical health.
> I could go on and on…but I won’t.

🚨Attention all Marathon Eryri 2023 runners🚨

From tomorrow until October 27th I am offering a 25% discount for Sports Massage treatment. That’s a £10 saving, £30 instead of the normal £40.

With 6 weeks (ish) left until race day you should be at the deep end of your training plan.

With weekly mileage at or approaching its highest NOW is the time to book yourself an MOT!!

Every year without fail I will get booking requests a week before the big race from runners who’ve either picked up an injury or have been carrying one for a few weeks in the hope it would go away.

We all know the saying…Prevention is better than Cure. In the case of marathon training it is absolutely true. The last thing you want is a 11th hour hiccup that either sets you back, or a worst case scenario, force you to pull out of the race completely.

During the first week of this block of classes we completed a bank of tests that challenged our muscular strength and cardiovascular fitness.

We all know in order to get better at something we need to practise…so this week is all about specificity.

Breaking down those fitness tests into bitesize pieces does a couple things, a) it allows us to focus in to improve the quality of work, and b) gives us a nice specific framework to design the sessions going forward.

Over time we will gradually make those bitesize pieces bigger and bigger, challenging ourselves more and more so that when we come back to repeat the bank of tests we will be stronger and fitter.

I’m fairly confident after this mornings session that my name will be mud for the next day or two 😬 so I think the crew will be happy that we are focusing solely on cardio Wednesday morning.
