Caldicot vs Abertillery(A) - 4th Oct 26.

The cygnets travelled to Abertillery in great weather on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning.

After a week off due to availability issues the boys were a bit off their game this week. They struggled to get to the ruck quick enough to seal off the ball meaning there were quite a lot of turn overs to the home team. That said the boys put in a great shift today working hard with only 10 boys available and no subs 💪🏻
I don’t think the score reflected how close the game was.

The final score was 20-5. Tries by Ezra H, Hadley, Will L and Tomos.

Our “Man of steel” award this week goes to Isaac he was quick to the rucks clearing out players and he also put in some great tackles in defence.

Our “Man of silk” award this week goes to Tomos for some good work at scrum half and a cheeky try.

Plenty to work on now but it’s games like this that you learn the most from. Keep the heads high boys it’ll click into place very soon 🙌🏻

Caldicot vs Machen (A) - 20th Sep 26.

The cygnets travelled to Machen for the first away game of the season, what great weather it was too.

After last week we worked hard on our speed to the ruck making sure we didn’t lose the ball in the turn over. What a great performance it was too, the boys were brilliant today rucking hard and clearing out the other team, quick ball from William K meant the backs got the ball in space and our 2 wingers ran in all the tries.

The final score was 8-12 to Caldicot. Tries by Ezra H and William R

Our “Man of steel” award this week goes to William K, he was quick to the rucks reading the game, his quick pick and goes meant valuable yards gained and the momentum kept going. He also put in some great tackles in defence.

Our “Man of silk” award this week goes to Ezra H great running lines scoring some awesome tries from well inside his own half.

The coaches were so proud of the effort from all the boys today showing they listened well in training and put into practise what they learnt.

Caldicot vs Chepstow (H) - 13th Sep 26.

We welcomed our local rivals to Caldicot last weekend. Last year saw a very close game over at Chepstow where the cygnets ran out winners. This year Chepstow came out wanting revenge running in some great tries and quick rucking meant they were quick to secure the ball and get it out wide to a couple of fast backs.

The cygnets also ran in some great tries and some great pick and goes meant we were able to make good ground but isolated players meant Chepstow was able to turn the ball over quickly and come back at the cygnets.

The final score was 7-17 to Chepstow. Tries by Will L, Hadley and Ezra H.

Our “Man of steel” award this week goes to Jayden, he made some great tackles and was quick to the rucks protecting the ball.

Our “Man of silk” award this week goes to Hadley for great support and great running lines scoring some awesome tries.

Newport Districts Tournament (H) - 5th Sep 26.

What a way to start the new season as the Cygnets welcomed the Newport District clubs to Caldicot RFC for a round robin tournament and selection for the district team.

The first game was a little daunting for the boys and they didn’t really come out the changing rooms.

As the next three games progressed the boys came out of their shell and came out fighting. Some good rucking which is new for this year, protecting the ball and possession and converting that into some great passing and good tries.

Our “Man of steel” award this week goes to Hugo, he was all over the field hitting pretty much every ruck, over turning a couple and clearing out our own rucks to keep possession💪🏻

Our “Man of silk” award this week goes to Will L, running all over the field scoring some good tries, including a hat trick.

The coaches were proud to find out 3 players were selected to train with Newport Districts Squad, William R, Hugo and Will L. Well done boys great effort.

Last weekend we finished off the Under 9s season with our annual presentation evening at Caldicot RFC.

What an amazing way to end the 2025/26 season as the whole team, parents and siblings celebrated the great season we have had watching the boys develop their rugby this year.

We move on now this season as Under 10s and continue to grow and develop our Caldicot Minijunior-rugby section.

We thanked coach Gareth for stepping up this year as coach and he was awarded a club tie. Thank you Gareth for all your help.

We would also like to thank the other coaches Coach Del and Coach James.

All the boys did amazing and deserved awards and were all winners in our eyes. Special mentions to Ezra H on 24/26 caps this year showing amazing commitment to the team. Also top try scorers:

It’s not all about rugby! 🦢🍻🍷🍾👨‍⚖️

The other half of The Gower Tour 2026 saw the whole Under 9s family base ourselves at Bank Farm Horton. What a fantastic place with amazing views and staff that couldn’t be anymore accommodating for us! 👍🏻

We arrived on Friday evening 8th May and met up in the bar for refreshments. After the game on Saturday morning we headed back to the site for a great BBQ and games, a little light hearted kangaroo court saw so many laughs and we all had fun! Thanks to Coach James and Evan for cooking.

Saturday night we all met in the bar for “tacky top” night and a few more refreshments were had and everyone had a great time.

After a few sore heads on Sunday we packed up and spent the day on the beach eating left over BBQ food and enjoying the relaxing sound of the waves as the boys and siblings enjoyed some sand and games.

What a great weekend with great friends and great boys! We are building a great team based on friendship, camaraderie and respect and we couldn’t ask for more from them. We are also building a great little friendship group of all the parents and siblings too.

We all had a really good weekend. Thanks to all that helped organise, without them it just wouldn’t have been possible!
