Get ready for a brilliant day at Sudbrook Cricket Club as the Big Bash returns on Sunday 30th August! 💙💛

There’ll be plenty happening on and off the pitch, with:

🏏 WEEKEND RESULTS | SUDBROOK CC 💙💛

A busy weekend of cricket for Sudbrook, with two comprehensive wins on Saturday, a battling defeat for the 3rd XI, before they bounced back with a hard-fought win on Sunday! 👏

🏏 1ST XI — WON BY 9 WICKETS

Sudbrook v Tondu

Bowling first, the 1st XI kept things tight from the outset against Tondu. Joey Voke, fresh from a week off, came back firing with an excellent 3/28 from his 10 overs as Tondu were restricted to 200/9.

The chase got off to another strong start, with Sudbrook reaching 74 before losing the first wicket. That brought the in-form James Hussey to the crease alongside Voke, and the pair made light work of the remaining runs.

Sudbrook cruised home by 9 wickets, with Joey Voke continuing his outstanding season by registering yet another century for the 1st XI! 💯🔥

That result leaves the 1st XI with a huge opportunity next weekend…

🏆 A win at home to Panteg next Saturday will see Sudbrook crowned LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!

🏏 2ND XI — WON BY 98 RUNS

Sudbrook v U&M

Asked to bat first on an absolute belter of a wicket — with an outfield currently resembling concrete — a big score was always on the cards!

The foundation was a superb 197-run partnership between youngster Archie Warby and veteran Jamie Watkins, with Watkins going on to register his first century of the season. 💯👏

Some serious late hitting from Bilal Butt and Rob Simmonds then propelled Sudbrook to a remarkable 381 runs — a new 2nd XI record! 🚀

With the ball, things proved a little tougher, but an inspired spell from Shah Haque changed the game. Shah removed three of U&M’s key batters, putting Sudbrook firmly in control.

U&M’s opener battled on to make an excellent century of his own, but the target was simply too big.

✅ Sudbrook win by 98 runs!

🏏 3RD XI — SATURDAY

Sudbrook v Blaina

A low-scoring thriller against promotion-chasing Blaina.

Batting first, Sudbrook were dismissed for 145, but the 3rd XI gave a fantastic account of themselves with the ball and made Blaina fight for every run.

The visitors eventually reached the target 8 wickets down, with Sudbrook pushing one of the division’s strongest sides all the way.

A defeat, but plenty of positives to take from the performance. 👏

🏏 3RD XI — SUNDAY

Sudbrook v Abercynon

Less than 24 hours later, the 3rd XI were back in action for their rearranged fixture against Abercynon — and another nail-biter followed!

Sudbrook produced a strong bowling display to dismiss Abercynon for just 123, with James Crook, fresh from sitting his exams, leading the way with an excellent 3/20. 📚➡️🏏

The chase certainly wasn't straightforward, with wickets falling throughout, but a hugely valuable 47 from Rich Lund helped steer Sudbrook towards the target.

The winning runs eventually came 8 wickets down to round off the weekend with another victory! 💪
