After 6 incredible years as Lead Coach of the Colts, the time has come for me to step away from the role.
Together we’ve navigated COVID, built a programme focused on developing better people as well as better rugby players, consistently fielded two competitive teams across the Eastern Counties, won 3 County Cups and reached 5 finals in 6 years — something everyone involved should be hugely proud of.
Thank you to the club for the opportunity, to the parents and wider support network for the constant backing, to the coaches who laid the foundations before me, and most importantly to the players for their effort, dedication, smiles, tears, and memories along the way.
I’ve been offered a new coaching opportunity alongside pursuing a Masters degree and family life, and I don’t feel I can give this group the time it deserves moving forward.
Stepping away slightly from a club that has been such a huge part of my life as both player and coach is not easy. I’ve made friendships for life and hope to remain part of the club’s story in the future.
Finally, thank you for supporting not just me, but my family too. My kids will miss serving behind the bar and telling Rob, “Dad will pay for the hot choccy later!” And a special thank you to Marsha for always helping with the kids while I was busy on the sidelines.
What a journey 🦚 ❤️🏉

Sport is cruel and it’s why we love it.
Being in the eye of the storm, the loss hurts.
Zooming out, the other wins and purpose of the program have such a profound impact for which I am hugely proud.
Credit to , the resilience shown was astounding.
Thank you to all the players and coaches for all your effort and dedication across the season. To have the success we have with two teams is no easy task.
Thank you also to the wider infrastructure that makes this all possible. Parents, first aides, bar staff…the whole collective. You’re the reason we love this incredible game. ❤️
The legacy speaks for itself.

Finals week.
What this group has done goes far beyond one game. To put ourselves in another final, with the chance to go back-to-back, speaks to the standards, commitment and character of this entire programme — not just the players, but everyone who has played a part along the way. Thank you.
I’m incredibly proud of the development I’ve seen. Not just as rugby players, but as young men. The legacy of this group is already there — in the connections to those who came before them and those who will follow.
This week isn’t about pressure. It’s about opportunity.
Trust the work that’s got you here. Trust each other. Block out the noise and play with freedom, bravery and enjoyment.
Be present. Be proud. Be Shelford.
Whatever happens, these boys have already set the standard.

Losing can be a lonely place. Especially if you step away from the strength of the team.
Harsh lesson on the topic this weekend. One that hurt the team as we have set a much higher bar.
In a two year cycle using that hurt being used to build has to be quick.
That fuel has to be used to be ignite the fire pretty sharpish.
Tend to the wounds.
Reflect.
Rebuild and ignite.

‘It’s not the size of the dog in the fight. It’s the size of the fight in the dog.’
Lads showed they’ve got a bit about them today.
Work ons to layer in, but super proud of how they fronted up.
We keep dancing 🤷🏽♂️

Block 1 complete for the 25/26 season with Colts.
Incredible group of young men. Passionate, energetic and polite. Excited to see where they can drive their metrics of success over the season.

Stand on the edge of things that humble you, that scare you.
Be that learning, social situations, fitness or even just nature itself.
Stand on the edge and move into that space of uncertainty.
That’s where progress is made.
