I want to touch on something that I feel is affecting people more than ever in this current situation!
Mental health
I have been lucky enough to be trained as a mental health first aider, which is a wonderful and beautiful thing to be able to provide, however it also taught me alot about myself also.
Strength is not just something we have aesthetically see, there is a huge amount of mental strength in all of us, sometimes we just need to find the right key!
Therapy doesn't always have to be physical to help us, but I find that they fit well hand in hand.
Just remember, reach out to people you feel have it all together, people who are 'too busy', people who may focus on you more than they are willing to talk about themselves.
Reach out, give them a call, go for a coffee, walk the dog together. Give people the knowledge that you are there if they need you.

The girl behind the mask.......
With everything that has been going on in the last year its becoming more and more noticeable that people don't really know who they are seeing.
Therefore I though I'd show the two sides of me, the one that you will greet at the door and the girl behind all the PPE!
I want to make sure you all feel like you know me while I get to know you and the injuries or problems that you have.
Now you have met me, let me meet you and see where I can help you out!!!

Better late than never!!!
The thumb is still slow, but progress has been made!
I can now put pressure through it, although not a great deal. I did get some odd sensations from it from time to time however nothing to be worried about. The skin around the nail bed does seem to be retracting but the nail is still there! Thank you for joining me in my in my journey keep your eyes peeled for treatment appointments available soon!!!

Week 5 and some interesting things are happening.
Large surface area pressure seems to be OK, however small surface area (like a pen or holding a fork) can cause me a good amount of pain.
However there are some silver linings, I have remarkablely less swelling, the movement in it is free flowing, my nail does seems be be growing (never knew I'd get excited about that) all be it slowly.
I'm trying to stay positive but I guess we'll see what next week's brings.

4 weeks in.....
It's becoming more and more frustrating as thing seemingly small injury is going through the normal healing process.
It's very easy to get disheartened, frustrated and just throw all caution to the wind and try to complete all the tasks you used to before. However time is key and if you don't allow it enough time, it will never trully heal.
Be patient, as a very wise woman once said to me... 'Good things come to those who wait.'

Slow but steady wins the race!
It's week 3 now for my thumb injury, which means a slow start to rehabilitation to help improve the movement. After an virtual hand occupational therapy appointment, all seems to be moving in the right direction.
See next week for my excuses excuses next update.

A week on with my thumb injury.....
After keeping my hand in a sling and very little sleep due to pain, something had to be done. I had my nailed drained to try and relieve some pressure which would help with that pain. This had to be done via a hot needle (I'm terrified of needles so there left me in a huge stressed mess)
Im also in a split for 2-3 weeks with rehabilitation to come.
Like all soft tissue injuries it is going to take 6 weeks to heal, I feel this is going to be a long 6 weeks.

OUCH!!!
or words to that effect.
The other day I had the misfortune of trapping my thumb in my own car door!! A silly injury, but a very real injury none the less.
With that in mind I thought I would show you what I am going through with my own injury and rehabilitation.
Follow along to see how I get on!
