We launched our Women Only Kickboxing Classes in Cambridge a couple of months ago. Aimed specifically at beginners or those who love kickboxing but felt intimidated or uncomfortable in mixed classes. If you want to train kickboxing in a friendly, fun and safe female-only environment, then give us a shout - our instructor Maria would love to meet you. Be prepared to work hard, sweat and smile a lot. Then sweat some more 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Our Women Only Kickboxing Classes have started now in Trumpington Meadows, Cambridge. We’ve had a great response and our trial classes are filling up way quicker than we’d expected. If you want to start something new, this Women Only class is aimed at complete beginners who want to train in a safe, ego-free environment and get in shape whilst learning this awesome combat sport. Our experienced coach Maria will be there every Tuesday & Thursday to guide you (and make you sweat).

I gave yesterday’s class some clear objectives for their final drill:
Defender: MUST start in a passive position, not a fighting stance; MUST target the head (no ineffective body strikes or kicks to the backside! *happens more than you think 😂*); MUST only use straight strikes or elbows.
Attacker: DO NOT throw beautiful straight punches like trained martial artists - instead throw horrible looping shots to the head (somewhere between a long hook or powerful cross, typically difficult to read and defend).
MUST move after the punch so defender has to learn to fight a moving target.
In this drill the attacker pushes the defender to signal intent and to start the sequence.

Sparring. An important part of combat sport / martial art / self defence training. Krav Maga is a BIG system - it covers striking, grappling, weapons, multiple attackers and later on, VIP protection. Taking that into account, we’re never going to have the experience or ‘ring time’ that pure boxers/kick-boxers/Nak Muay have. We’re also never going to match the ‘mat time’ that pure grapplers /BJJ students do. However, a good starting goal should be to be able to hold your own in an inter-club amateur kickboxing bout or against a BJJ blue belt for example. After that, with experience and repetition the level should increase. Remember, sparring for us is more about conditioning students to the reality of fighting. At an early stage with boxing gloves, more intermediate with MMA gloves and later, controlled rounds without gloves or pads.
This clip is all about low power, but high work-rate. Continuous movement and finding the footwork, strikes, combinations and timing to gradually improve. FYI I’ve also cross trained kickboxing and BJJ for a number of years, so my opinion isn’t based on wishful thinking. Just an honest appraisal of the goals new students should set themselves. Any training is better than no training.

Review of some of the past few weeks fighting classes. Krav Maga is built upon 3 pillars: 1) Self Defence techniques 2) Fighting Skills 3) Protecting Others (3rd party protection). Our experienced instructor team teaches all 3.

Same drills as yesterday, except this time my team are training in their ‘opposite’ stance. To be able to switch stances whilst still retaining the same timing, balance and power is a skill which requires constant practice. It also produces a more efficient, proficient fighter.
