Last weekend I was in Torbay for the SUPERFestival and ICF World Cup event. The weekend began with a AquaPaddle UK social paddle (essentially Parkrun for paddlers) hosted by my good mate Marc Wade . Saturday was the Festival sprint races and my favourite, the Technical - a 1.5km course around several buoys with a sprint start and finish from the beach. After a great day of racing Sunday had a more relaxed start with an attempt to break the record for a mass paddle, attracting hundreds of paddlers to the water. It finished with a distance race across the bay and prize giving. Meanwhile in the harbour SUP polo kept people entertained. If any of this sounds like your kind of thing I’d highly recommend doing the 2027 event 😁🏄🏼‍♂️

On a warm day when the river in central Cambridge is busy you can usually find solitude out in Waterbeach 👌

Leisurely early morning paddle on the Cam. I’d not been for a while so went slowly and took lots of photos, although it never changes much. But why not, when it looks this good? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Waited months to attempt the Great Ouse bore and then a few weeks after its peak around the Spring equinox, conditions looked decent again, and it was on.

Another crew of kayakers and SUPs was assembled, with some new faces trying it for the first time.

Sunday evening we paddled out, and waited, knowing it was probably not going to be as good as March, or even appear at all. For 45 minutes we watched and waited. Ready to call it a night, we heard shouts from a local on the river bank and our drone pilot

It was coming! Here’s what happened next.

Another great experience paddling this unique wave with .j.light

My second time racing in the and boy was it a tough one. Headwinds on the return leg meant at one point I was stationary.

Managed to get through it and post a time one minute faster than last year, so pleased with that. I need a faster board than my 12’6” tourer though!!
