Thanks for all the birthday wishes, had a great time, tagged an extra day on the the BH weekend, nice little break also.

You may remember our friends at Burwell Carnival helping us with our Comedy Night, time to reciprocate with some publicity for their upcoming great events!

On Friday we held a site meeting with some lovely people from the Environment Agency who shared several platform designs from across the area - there is certainly more than one way to build a platform it seems!
To build on their land we require a permit and to fulfill some legal costs, meaning over the next few weeks we will be exploring a second fund raising event, outside funding opportunities and work on the platform design

Good Morning - we're absolutely delighted to announce that the amount raised at our Comedy Night in September was a shade under £1200!!
This is a fantastic start to our funding raising campaign, so a huge thank-you for your support on the evening. We would also like to thank Paul Webb and Pete Lancaster from Burwell Carnival, who ran the bar and no doubt collapsed in a heap at the end of the evening - we couldn't have done it without you!
As far as the next steps are concerned we have contacted the Environment Agency to talk through the design for the landing stage and also the exact positioning of it (it is their land so we have to ask :) ). Now we have some funds in the bank we can start exploring opportunities for matched funding/grants.

Hi everyone, we will be delivering tickets to all those who have ordered in the next day or so. We are getting realy excited as the 24th gets nearer, it will be a great night of comedy!! Still time to get tickets if you haven't already.

Hi, ticket sales for our Comedy Night 24th September are increasing, but behind where we need to be in terms of covering costs, oh and raising funds.
Pun alert - when we 'floated' the idea of a landing platform last year the support from villagers was amazing. It would be incredible if that same support translated in to ticket sales - we need your support to kick-start this whole project.
Reminder its on Saturday 24th September at the very swish, refurbished, Gardiner Memorial Hall - DM for tickets please.

Hi everyone, we are excited to announce a Comedy Night on Saturday 24th September at the newly refurbished Gardiner Memorial Hall – 7pm onwards. Ticket prices are a bargainess £10 each in advance, £12.50 on the door, if available. Please message to buy in advance, cash only please, your tickets will be delivered by our very only Burwellaroo delivery service for no extra charge!

Your comedians for the evening are:

We have had some great support for this project and really hope you will join us to put a few pounds in the bank to make this happen. We’re really excited to put this on for you, what a better way to spend a few hours away from what is a crazy world at the moment.

Welcome to the official Paddle The Lode page!

This page has been created as part of an effort to raise funds to build, with the aid of a grant, a kayak/canoe/paddle board launch station on Burwell Lode, of which there was great support shown through posts in the Burwell Community Noticeboard in 2021.

We intend to hold at least 2 fundraising events this year, and hope you can support us in our quest to make the launch station a reality! Watch this space for a post announcing the first of these events.

Putting aside the ‘minor’ problem of funding, a lot of work has been going on behind the scenes, for example acquiring a permit with the Environment Agency, and subject to meeting their regulations we have agreement from them to build on their land. We have good contacts within British Canoeing, in particular with their ‘build’ specialist, and our intention is to make something which will stand for many years to come. Burwell Parish Council have been prompt in answering any questions and are overall very supportive of the project!

Whilst it’s difficult to put a timescale on the project, we estimate anywhere between 12 and 24 months and with your support and as a Group, we are determined to make this happen for the Burwell community.
