Help GoGo with Baby GoGo.

That’s the story our Mini Athletes will see during Charity Week.

But behind Baby GoGo is the reason we’re doing it.

This year, Mini Athletics is supporting Imagine This, a charity focused on the mental wellbeing of seriously ill children and their families.

For our Mini Athletes, Charity Week will still feel like Mini Athletics — running, jumping, throwing, imagination and plenty of GoGo.

For us, it’s also a chance to use those sessions to shine a light on the work Imagine This does and why that support matters.

A fun week for the children.

A much bigger reason behind it.

Over £1,500 raised already — and Charity Week hasn’t even started yet!

Mini Athletics franchises across the UK have already raised an incredible £1,514 for Imagine This.

And we’re only getting started.

Charity Week is coming very soon, with plenty happening across our sessions to help support an amazing cause.

From his first Mini Athletics photo at 5 years old… to his last.

This one feels a bit different.

Leo has officially graduated from Mini Athletics.

When you look back through the photos, what really stands out is how many of the same children are there year after year.

That group genuinely grew up together through Mini Athletics, and Leo is now one of the last of them to reach the point where he’s simply become too old to carry on.

There’s another thing you notice in so many of those old photos too.

Coach Hillary is there.

She had been away at university for a year, so for her to come back over the summer and get the chance to coach Leo again before he graduated felt pretty special.

At the end of one of those sessions, Leo made a point of going over to tell her that he’d be leaving at the end of the month.

For Hillary, after being part of so many of those earlier sessions and then having a year away, that was a really lovely full-circle moment.

Leo has had a number of coaches throughout his Mini Athletics journey, all playing a part as he’s grown through the programme.

Coach Ryan is usually over in Saffron Walden on Sundays now, so he doesn’t get to Impington very often.

But every time he does, Leo remembers his name straight away.

Coach Ryan still remembers walking into the hall one Sunday, seeing someone launch a rocket from halfway across the hall straight into the bag and asking Coach Nat:

“Who's that child!?!”

Of course it was Leo.

From that first photo his mum took when he joined us, to this final one taken by his dad, it’s pretty special to see how far he’s come.

Leo, thank you for being such a brilliant part of Mini Athletics over the years.

We can’t wait to see what else you achieve outside of Mini Athletics.

These photos are from our Superstar Events throughout the years

A bigger space. More children. More noise. More going on.

Often alongside children they’ve never met before.

For some children, that’s a big step.

But Mini Athletics gives them something familiar underneath it all.

They know the rhythm. They know the expectations. They know they can have a go without needing to get everything right.

And while they’re out there pushing their own boundaries, the parents are on the sidelines watching it happen.

Not right beside them. Not stepping in. Just watching proudly as their child gets stuck in.

Joining new children. Trying something they might normally avoid. Taking on a bigger challenge.

And because they’re having fun, it doesn’t always feel like they’re being brave.

They’re just doing it.

Over 1 million seriously ill children in the UK.

When a child is seriously ill, understandably, so much attention has to go into looking after their physical health.

But their mental wellbeing matters too.

That’s why we want you to know about Imagine This.

Imagine This is dedicated to supporting the mental wellbeing of seriously ill children and their families.

Because serious illness can mean fear, isolation, missing out on childhood experiences and huge changes to everyday family life.

And behind every diagnosis is still a child who deserves opportunities to play, laugh, create, connect and simply be a child.

That’s something we think is worth caring about.

Mini Athletics is working with Imagine This to help raise money for this work, and our Cambridge & Saffron Walden Mini Athletes will be doing their bit too.

We’ve got something pretty special planned for them...

And apparently Gogo has absolutely no idea how to look after him.

So this week, our Mini Athletes across Cambridge and Saffron Walden are stepping in to help.

They’ll be running, jumping and throwing their way through a very special Mini Athletics session, all while raising money for Imagine This.

Could your child’s Mini Athletics be funded?

This one has taken a bit of work behind the scenes.

Inclusion has always been a huge part of what I care about, and that includes making sure cost isn’t the reason a child misses out on being active.

When I first looked at Cambridge City Council’s Grassroots Activity Grant, our monthly membership setup didn’t fit neatly with how the funding is usually paid.

We could have left it there.

Instead, I spoke directly with the council.

I explained just how influential these sessions can be for children — getting them active, building confidence, developing movement skills and giving them a place where they can feel comfortable joining in.

But I also wanted them to understand what makes Mini Athletics, Mini Athletics.

The stories.
The imagination.
The silliness.
An Amazineer bringing a session to life.

I genuinely believe every child should have the opportunity to experience that.

And I didn’t want money — or the way our membership works — to be the reason they couldn’t.

So I kept the conversation going.

And we got there.

Mini Athletics Cambridge can now invoice Cambridge City Council directly for successful Grassroots Activity Grant applications.

Applications open 1 October for activities from January 2027.
