WHEN DID WE STOP FALLING IN LOVE WITH THE GAME? ⚽️

Somewhere along the way, football can become about more than the game itself.

Results.
Recognition.
Trophies.
Tryouts.
Scholarships.
The next opportunity.

There is nothing wrong with having big dreams.

Wanting to compete at a high level, play professionally or earn a scholarship can be powerful goals.

But the goal should never become bigger than the reason you started playing.

Before the results, there is the work.

Before the recognition, there is the learning.

Before the opportunity, there is preparation.

And before all of it, there should still be a love for the game.

At AB’Ed Legacy, we believe development is about more than creating better players.

It is about teaching athletes to appreciate the work behind improvement:

To show up when nobody is watching.
To accept correction.
To stay disciplined when progress feels slow.
To compete without losing respect.
To keep learning when they think they already know enough.

Because a trophy can celebrate a moment.

A result can open a door.

But the habits, character and discipline built through the journey stay with the athlete long after the game is over.

We don’t want athletes who only train because they want something from football.

We want athletes who learn to love the process of becoming better.

Fall in love with the game.
Respect the process.
Work with purpose.

The results will come when they come.

⚽️🧠📈

CUÁNDO DEJAMOS DE ENAMORARNOS DEL FÚTBOL? ⚽️

Train with Purpose. Develop with Intention.

SPEED IS MORE THAN RUNNING FAST. ⚽️

Explosive starts.
Changes of pace.
Close ball control.

At 9 years old, development is about learning how to move, accelerate, slow down, change rhythm and stay connected to the ball.

Every movement has a purpose.
Every repetition is an opportunity to improve.

Train with Purpose. Develop with Intention.

THE FINAL IS HERE. ⚽️🏆

One more game.

One more opportunity.

One moment to see everything these young athletes have worked for come together on the field.

On September 19, the U16 Girls will take the field for the North Youth Cup 2026 Final.

And for our family, this one is especially meaningful.

Allison will be there. 💜

But this moment is bigger than one player.

It’s about the girls.
The coaches who believe in them.
The work nobody sees.
The corrections.
The discipline.
The difficult days.
The growth.

And then… the opportunity to compete.

SUNDAY REFLECTION | WINNING IS NOT THE SAME AS DEVELOPING.

September brings a new season.

Tryouts.
New teams.
New coaches.
New expectations.

And naturally, we want our children to win.

But here’s a question worth asking:

What if your child wins the game… but isn’t actually becoming a better player?

A team can win while an individual player stops progressing.

A player can score goals without improving their decision-making.

They can start every game without developing the weaknesses holding them back.

They can be one of the strongest players on the team — and still have significant areas that need to grow.

Winning tells you what happened today.
Development tells you what is being built for tomorrow.

That’s why development cannot be measured only by goals, assists, wins, trophies or playing time.

Sometimes the most important progress is harder to see:

A better first touch.
A faster decision.
A stronger movement pattern.
Better awareness.
More confidence under pressure.
A willingness to receive correction.
The ability to perform something that was difficult a month ago.

And this is where intentional extra training can make a difference.

Not simply more training.

The right training.
For the right player.
For the right reason.

Because adding more sessions without understanding what the player actually needs can simply mean doing more of the same.

The real question isn’t:

“How many times does my child train each week?”

It’s:
“What are we developing?”

As tryout season unfolds, don’t only ask which team your child made.

Ask:
What does this level demand from my child?
Where are the gaps?
And what are we doing to close them?

Because the goal of development isn’t just to help a player perform well today.

It’s to help them become more capable tomorrow.

Win the game.
Learn from the game.
But never confuse the result with the development.

Train With Purpose.

DOMINGO DE REFLEXIÓN | GANAR NO ES LO MISMO QUE DESARROLLARSE.

Septiembre trae una nueva temporada.

Tryouts.
Nuevos equipos.
Nuevos entrenadores.
Nuevas exigencias.

TODAY, WE CELEBRATE BRYAN ALEXANDER MENDOZA

Today, we’re celebrating more than a birthday.🎉 🎂

We’re celebrating a young athlete whose journey is deeply connected to the reason AB’Ed Legacy exists.

When Bryan arrived in Canada, soccer became more than a sport.

The ball became his refuge.
His companion.
And eventually, his way of believing in himself.

Bryan always knew he didn’t have the same natural gift his sister was blessed with. But instead of allowing that difference to define him, he discovered something that would become much more important:

He could work for what he wanted.

One day, he told his dad:

“I want to become a professional soccer player. And I know that if I want to reach that dream, I have to train.”

He understood something at a very young age.

Even if there wasn’t always enough time, money, or resources to make the journey easy, he could still take his ball, wake up, run, train, and do whatever was within his control to become better.

So he did.

His father started watching his routine, his discipline, and most importantly, his genuine desire to improve.

Weeks later, his father became his personal coach.

What started with a boy and a soccer ball slowly became a journey.

Bryan found a team that made him feel at home during the winter indoor season. He helped them become champions and finished the league with 32 goals, earning the league MVP.

Then came another opportunity.

He went through tryouts and found a club that would become another home. In his first season, he became a champion again and finished as the league’s top scorer with 41 goals.

But Bryan didn’t stop there.

He continued preparing throughout the winter, working toward earning his place in the LEAP High Performance Athlete Program at his high school.

And this season has taught him something that trophies and goals never could.

Resilience.

Injuries. Adversity. Frustration. Moments when the road didn’t look the way he imagined.

And yet, he kept going.

That is the other side of the story.

Not every player begins with the same natural gifts.
Not every journey looks the same.
And not every dream comes with an easy path.

But sometimes, the difference is what a player chooses to do with what they have.

Bryan, you have taught us that talent is not the only way forward.

You have taught us the value of discipline, perseverance, consistency, and trusting the process 🙌🏻 even when the results don’t come immediately.

And perhaps most importantly, you are one of the reasons AB’Ed Legacy exists.

Your desire to become better inspired your dad to start developing you differently. That journey eventually became a philosophy: understand the player, identify what they need, build with purpose, and never stop developing.

Today, we don’t know exactly where your soccer journey will take you.

But we do know this:

You have already become a different player from the boy who arrived in Canada with a ball and a dream.

And we are incredibly proud of how far you have come.

Happy 15th Birthday, Bryan “BAM - BAM! 💚⚽️

May God continue to guide your path, strengthen your character, protect you through every challenge, and give you the courage to keep pursuing the dream that started with a ball at your feet.

Keep believing.
Keep working.
Keep learning.
Keep building.

Your story is still being written.

And whatever the future holds, AB’Ed Legacy will always be proud of the player ⚽️ and even more proud of the young man — you are becoming.

Happy Birthday, Bryan.
Keep building your legacy. 🦅💛⚽️

Sigue construyendo tu legado. 🦅💛⚽️

SUNDAY REFLECTION | WHEN PLAYING TIME BECOMES A COMPETITION

September is here.

Tryouts are happening.

Players are changing clubs, joining new teams, meeting new coaches and stepping into new environments.
For many athletes, making the team feels like the goal.

But what happens after you make it?

Because in a competitive environment, being selected is not the finish line.

It’s the beginning of another challenge.

A player may have been one of the strongest on their previous team.

They may have started every game.

They may have been used to playing big minutes.

Then they enter a new environment and suddenly…

They’re on the bench.

And that’s where an important question begins:
“What do I do now?”
Do I blame the coach?
Do I blame the system?

Do I assume someone else is getting opportunities they don’t deserve?

Or do I ask myself:
“What can I do to earn the next opportunity?”

Because competitive soccer doesn’t promise minutes simply because a player made the roster.

And it shouldn’t automatically be about who pays more, who talks louder, or who believes they deserve more.

At a competitive level, the challenge is learning to earn trust.

Through training.
Through consistency.
Through attitude.
Through decision-making.
Through physical and technical development.
Through the ability to respond to coaching.

And sometimes…

through how a player responds when they don’t get what they want.

The bench can be uncomfortable.

But discomfort can teach a player something that training alone sometimes cannot.

It can reveal whether they are willing to work when nobody is watching.

Whether they can accept feedback without making excuses.

Whether they can stay committed when the reward isn’t immediate.

Whether they are prepared to compete for their next opportunity instead of expecting it.

And parents have an important role here too.

Because when a player comes home saying,
“Why am I not playing?”

the easiest response is to find someone to blame.

The more valuable response might be:

“What do you think you need to improve to earn more opportunities?”

That’s not accepting unfair treatment.

It’s teaching the athlete to take ownership of what they can control.

Because there is a difference between being entitled to an opportunity and being prepared to earn it.

And that difference becomes even more important as the level rises.

So this September, as players move into new teams and new competitive environments, perhaps the question isn’t:
“Did my child make the team?”

Perhaps the better question is:
“Is my child developing into the player this level requires?”

Because making the roster is one achievement.

Being ready to compete for your place is another.

¿O me pregunto:
