After two big days for THBC, the results from this year's Fairbairn Cup are in! We had a huge presence on the river, with seven racing 8s across the two days.

First up and racing yesterday, were our three novice crews (NM1, NM2 and NW1). NM1 and NM2 both came 5th in their respective categories and divisions, with NM2 completing the course in a faster time than half the NM1 crews! NW1 have showed great progress over the term and finished 15th of the NW1 crews in their division.

Racing today were our M1, M2, W1, and Black & Whites Alumni Boat. All crews did really well, with a notable mention to M1, finishing the highest for any THBC M1 boat since 2019! M1 finished 7th in their category, W1 finished 3rd behind Pembroke and Jesus W1 - continuing a strong legacy from last year - and M2 placed 4th of all boats entered into the M2 category today.

The Black & Whites had a tough job with racing in the Open Category for invitational 8s. They still did superbly well and would've placed 6th in the women's invitational 8s (with the boat being 7/8 previous women's/NB side rowers)!

Overall, the club has done really well this week! With some of the best results we've seen in a fair few years, there's a lot to be proud of. A massive WELL DONE to everyone who raced, and good luck to those racing in the Christmas Head tomorrow! ROWHALLπŸ–€πŸ€

As we look forward to another big racing week for THBC (Fairbairns pending...) here's a quick review of everything that went down on the river for our competing novice boats last Saturday:

NW2 took to the water in the first races of the day. They gave a really good effort in their first water race this term, but clare NW2 did take the win in the opening round.

Next up, NM2 won their initial heat against LMBC NM3 easily, followed by a similarly easy win against Queens NM2 in the next round. After a successful first couple of rounds, the crew lost to Catz NM2 in the semi finals. A great first day of on-the-water racing from NM2!

NW1 gave Eddies a run for their money in the opening round of the Novice Women Ist category, losing by just a boat's length over the whole course.

Finally, NM1 successfully (and easily!) defeated Wolfson NM1 in their heat, followed swiftly by another easy win against Selwyn NM1 in the quarter finals. The day ended with an unfortunate loss to LMBC in the semi finals, but again another great result overall from one of our novice boats!

Well done to everyone who took part, and good luck with racing today and tomorrow in the Fairbairns. If you're in Cambridge do come down and watch!! You might even spot some friendly faces from the past rowing in our Alumni mixed 8+ πŸ˜‰

We've had another great racing weekend at THBC! For the first time in recent history, we raced a W1 4+ (our lovely bowloader), and the outcome was certainly something to be proud of, with the crew finishing 2nd overall in the Women's/NB College 4+ crews. Our M1 8+ also raced, placing a strong 6th and even overtaking the Churchill M1 boat in the first half of the race! Well done to everyone who represented the club yesterday, and a big thank you to everyone who came down to bank party. Next stop: novice racing... Emma Sprints and Clare Novice Regatta coming soon! We've had a super busy weekend at THBC! Last night (Saturday), boatclub members and friends gathered by the river to watch the Midsummer Common Fireworks display, with the THBC committee providing mulled wine and doughnuts for all to enjoy. A big thank you to everyone who came down and helped us to sell out ❀

Today (Sunday), our novice and mixed senior crews took part in the Qergs competition, which takes the form of an 8x500m relay race. It was a wonderful day for the club, finishing top 5 in most of the divisions we entered! A notable mention should go to our seniors, who finished really strong in 3rd place, despite some technical difficulties with their erg. NM1 (finishing 4th in their division) also pulled some really impressive splits today too! Well done to everyone who took part today - ROWHALL πŸ–€πŸ€

Yesterday we welcomed a group of members from one of our Oxford sister colleges ( ), to join our Men's 4+ for a paddle (with some friendly competition thrown in at the end!)

It was lovely to meet our Oxford counterparts, and we hope they enjoyed their visit to the Cam as much as we enjoyed hosting them. Word on the street is that they'll be back for Fairbarins race at the end of term, so hopefully we'll have another chance to meet again soon :)

A big thank you to the JCR Sports Officers who organised the event, as part of a wider swap!

A reminder that we're running "tubbing" sessions for the remainder of this week, with sessions consisting of 30 minutes on the water in our stable tubs, and directed by a senior member of the THBC community. You'll learn all the basics needed to start rowing/coxing in full any of our bigger boats, and there'll be plenty of opportunity to ask questions or clarify anything you're currently unsure about. The sign up link is now live in our bio, and QR codes can also be found around College.

We ask that if you wish to row this term, you attend ideally 3 (2 as a bare minimum!) tubbing sessions. If you only attended a single session last week please keep signing up! πŸ™‚

09/10/2025

Are YOU 🫡 interested in learning to cox for THBC? Come join our senior coxes and Captain of Coxes, May, for a coffee in the Aula Coffee Shop at Central Site - 1:30pm onwards Saturday 11th October! It's the perfect chance to ask questions or address any concerns you might have :)

07/10/2025

Annual cocktail night is now in full swing! Join us at central site between now and 10pm :)
