Introducing your CURUFC captains for the 2026/27 season: Zoë Wright (Clare) and Nathan Bottomley (Trinity) 👏

We are so excited to see what these two will bring both on and off the pitch this season. Good luck and GDBO 🩵🦁

Read their thoughts on captaincy below👇

Zoë: “It’s an honour to have been elected as Captain of CURUFC Women for the upcoming 2026-7 season. There’s an energy about the club right now that is difficult to explain; for the first time in several years, we have real continuity across the section going into next year. For me, CURUFC is more than just a club. I have experienced both elation and heartbreak with these girls, and there is no group of people I’d rather lead next season. I could not be more excited about the direction we’re heading in.”

Nate: “I feel incredibly honoured to have been elected Captain of CURUFC Men’s Blues for the 2026/27 season. This club means a great deal to me and its rich history makes it a truly special place to be part of. I’m looking forward to working alongside such a talented and committed group of players in the upcoming season.”

Cambridge University Rugby Club are thrilled to announce the appointment of Mike Gillick as Women’s Head Coach for the 26/27 season.

Mike has extensive experience both playing and coaching in Cambridgeshire and beyond — from playing with the Leicester Tigers Academy and Championship rugby with Birmingham Moseley, to coaching various community departments and most recently the Shelford Colts, with whom he won an impressive three county cup finals.

“I’m incredibly proud to have been appointed Head Coach of the University of Cambridge Women’s Rugby Union Football Club and I’m excited to begin working with such a talented group of players and staff.”

CURUFC women are really excited for a new era of rugby with Mike at the helm. After two years of Oxford having held the Women’s Varsity Match title, Mike hopes to drive performance and ultimately bring the trophy back into the hands of the Light Blues.

Head to our website to hear more about Mike and his coaching approach.

⏰ FULL TIME ⏰

36 - 18 for a Cambridge win!

Our women's blues had their final game this year and they ended on a win!
Uni of Worcester's team didn't make it easy though, the game started with a tight score but by half time Cambridge managed to get ahead by 2 tries.

Still fighting in the second half Worcester took a penalty kick and made another try. Luckily our girls weren't for giving up and made sure they secured their victory with a couple more tries. The girls walked off the pitch with their heads held high, a great performance from this team. 💪

One club. Countless stories of teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination in the face of adversity. Thank you to everyone who came out to support us at Varsity 🩵

After putting together some of the best defensive work and attacking plays they’d had this season, it wasn’t to be for the Women’s Blues, defeated 8-52. Though the score wasn’t what they wanted, it was an opportunity well seized by a young and developing team to show the grit and teamwork they had built this season.

We thank everyone who came out on the day or have supported them throughout the season. They will be back in 2027 with a vengeance. GDBO.
