THE NVL IS BACK 🏐

This Sunday, M2 have the honour of kicking off CVC’s 2026/27 league season with a triangular at NCA against GNG Volleyball Club Bedford Bedford and our old friends Norwich Spikers Volleyball.

Bedford means an immediate opportunity for redemption after last weekend’s Shield encounter. This time we’ve persuaded them to come to Cambridge, meaning it’s their turn to battle the roadworks.

M2 will also be reunited with Norwich, because apparently we simply cannot go too long without seeing each other.

M2 aren’t particularly accustomed to triangulars, but with the div 3 format this season they’re about to become very familiar with spending an entire Sunday in a sports hall.

And there wont be much change of scenery in said sports hall - an alarming proportion of the triangulars in Men’s Division 3 Central seem to be taking place at NCA this year. At this point Volleyball England might as well save everyone some admin and rename it to Men’s Division 3 NCA.

There’ll also be the annual CVC media day happening in the adjacent room, so don’t be surprised if M2 emerge for set three in full makeup with freshly blow-dried hair. We cannot guarantee the volleyball will improve, but the headshots should be excellent. If any fans/spectators would like some free headshots you know where to be!

Three teams. Three matches. A chance to rocket straight to the top of the table.

See you at NCA. Better get comfy.

Shield Results!!!

On Saturday, our brand new women’s 3 team started life as they mean to go on, with a resounding 3-0 win away at Worthing. Worthing were indeed worthy opponents, but W3 were not ready to take the shield out of the trophy cabinet just yet and build a variety of convincing attacks to secure the W.

Perhaps the highlight of the game was when the referees assumed everyone had watched the pre-season briefing, and had to watch on confused as both teams decided to self-present themselves to the world at the old presentation time.

I’ve also been asked to shout out our professional chauffeur Tim, who kindly drove the team all the way to Worthing and back. What luxury!

Sadly on Sunday M2 suffered a slightly different fate and were bested by kings of the grass court GNG Bedford. It was not for lack of effort, with significant parts of the game being very close-fought and the first set going to 27-25. I’m told it was a good match and a promising start to M2s season, but for now they are officially out of the shield running.

Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise - I was slightly dreading the next cup/shield weekend and juggling 5 teams playing with instagrams brutal character limit.

Also I would like to take a moment to celebrate the fact that M2 sent me a team photo WITHOUT ME HAVING TO CALL THEM AND CRY/BEG things are really looking up this season.

Stay tuned for the league season officially starting this weekend and our imminent club media day!

WE ARE SO BACK 🏐

In a shocking turn of events that has really caught me off guard, September is ending. Which means it’s time to put away the flip flops, remember where we left our kneepads (hopefully not in the bottom of our mouldy kit bags), and begin another indoor season with the first round of the National Shield.

First into battle are our brand new W3, heading all the way to Worthing for their first ever official fixture. CVC are the current holders of the Women’s Shield, so no pressure ladies but we would quite like to keep hold of that.

It’s a baptism of fire for W3, already having to spend approximately three hours each way in an MPV. At least they’re getting one last trip to the seaside before winter. Maybe don’t put the flip flops away just yet.

W3 are so new that I don’t actually have any photos of them yet, hence the ceremonial wheeling-out of this heavily overused action shot of coach Andres. They’re also currently sponsorless, so if you’ve ever wanted to see your company logo repeatedly featured alongside unnecessarily long and rambling blocks of text, this could be the commercial opportunity you’ve been waiting for. Get in touch.

Then on Sunday, M2 make the slightly shorter but spiritually much more devastating journey down the A428 to Bedford. Nobody knows what they’re doing to that road, how long they’ve been doing it, or whether anyone involved remembers what the finished product is supposed to look like.

GNG Bedford are a slightly terrifying prospect after spending the summer tearing through the grass volleyball scene, including ours. But M2 have assembled a promising mixture of fresh blood and upper-league experience and are ready to show us what they’re bringing to the table this season.

We’re hoping Cambridge and Bedford can climb the leagues together, primarily so that future away trips can include a quick visit to Universal Studios. Cannot wait for the Universal Studios websote to read:

ORLANDO • HOLLYWOOD • OSAKA • SINGAPORE • BEIJING • BEDFORD

If you’ve read all of this please drop a 🏐 in the comments so I know if I’m screaming into the void.

Shield results incoming. League season starts next week. Stay tuned!!!

We are delighted to announce a new partnership with Deep Dish, who will be joining us as our official beach volleyball partner!

Deep Dish are dedicated to creating opportunities for people to live a connected, active and happy beach life through beach volleyball clubs, training camps and vacations for players of all levels.

Working together will help us expand the beach volleyball opportunities available to our members, including summer training sessions in St Albans and a club trip abroad to one of Deep Dish’s beach volleyball vacations!

We’re excited about what this collaboration can bring and look forward to giving our members more opportunities to get on the sand, develop their game and enjoy beach volleyball together.

Keep an eye out for details of the club trip to be announced soon... ☀️🏖️🏐
