Cambridge South Hockey Club showed up in style at the Ely Tournament with three brilliantly named teams: Easy Peasy, Early Bird, and Ever Cloud—all sticking to the “E” theme with classic CSHC flair!

Easy Peasy were just one point shy of the final, so we’re calling it third place with pride—they played some seriously slick hockey. Early Bird lived up to their name, flying through to win it all on flicks. And Every Cloud floated through the tournament with great energy and even better vibes. 🫛⛅️🐥

It was a day full of sunshine, stick work, and plenty of laughs. The purple army brought the energy, the effort, and the entertainment. As always: Suns out, guns out, fun out! Can’t wait to do it all again next year.

thank you as always to your club for having us, especially to Nat & Rhi! 💛💚💜

A historic day for Cambridge South as Rob Barton achieved the extraordinary milestone of scoring 500 career goals for the club—a feat unmatched in its brilliance and longevity. The milestone, marked by a clinical penalty stroke past the keeper, was a moment of awe as whispers of its significance rippled across the field. Rob’s second goal followed swiftly, proving 500 is just another number to overcome for this South legend. Celebrations (complete with Celebrations) ensued, capped off by the M6s presenting Rob with a well-deserved trophy to commemorate the achievement. Congratulations, Rob—500 goals is an astonishing legacy, towering over the next-best 208 and even excluding pre-digital-era records!

The match itself saw Cambridge South dominate Wisbech in a 5-0 victory. While Rob stole the show, the younger Wisbech side showed grit, exploiting gaps in South’s defense only to be thwarted time and again by the impenetrable Miles in goal. South’s attack was relentless, with goals also coming from Paul, James P, and Jordan, showcasing the team’s depth and flair around the D.

Rob earned Man of the Match for his record-breaking display, though Alex drew praise for his dynamic play and tormenting the opposition. However, Rob also hilariously took home Lemon of the Match for blocking Alex’s shot on the goal line, allegedly yelling “there can only be one!”—a moment that perfectly encapsulated the joyful spirit of the day.

Reflecting on his achievement, Rob said: “Before today, I’d never dreamt of knocking in a centsexagintaseptuple hat-trick. It’s a milestone to forever be proud of and one only achievable thanks to the wonderful folks at Cambridge South.” Here’s to many more, Rob! 600? Bring it on.

🎄❄️ Get ready to chill out – our Christmas social is here! ⛷️🔥

For 2024, we’re cranking up the frosty fun with an Après Ski Party!

With a menu of ice-breaker festive-themed burgers (served with chips and coleslaw), a cozy indoor/outdoor terrace, exclusive bar, a polar-isingly good dance floor, Christmas and ski-inspired decor, Cambridge South-themed cocktails, and live saxophone music to keep you toasty on the inside, this promises to be a social event that will have you saying “Yule love it!”

And of course, no festive event is complete without our traditional 12 Days of Christmas – it’s a cracker!

Après Ski fancy dress is strongly encouraged (think bright ski jackets, fleeces, ear warmers, or maybe a festive scarf – whatever makes you feel winter wonderful), but it’s not essential.

We’ve got exclusive use of the terrace, outdoor bar, and private toilets at the Grantchester Green Man.

🎟️ Tickets: £20.72 per person

Guests welcome! Just let Hannah or Tim know – we’ll need their email address to add them to the event.

Adults may bring Juniors (since we’re serving food and pub policy allows it), but adults must remain responsible for them throughout the evening. Please send us a message on a case-by-case basis.

We’d love to see as many of you as possible – this event is set to be ice-cellent! We’ve worked hard to deck the hills with all the trimmings, so don’t miss it!

DEADLINE FOR SIGN-UP: DECEMBER 1ST ON SPOND!

See you at the chalet,
The Winter Snowcial Team 🎿✨

Last weekend, Cambridge South HC hit the pitch for a packed schedule, earning 5 wins and taking 10 “character-building” losses. While ChatGPT was in attendance and can’t quote directly, the bantzzz was in full gear.

M1s: Dictators and Jumpers

The Men’s 1s match report brought chaos as Captain Will was compared to Kim Jong-un in the “political leaders” category (with no explanation, unnaturally):

“Here is my category – political leaders… Will – Kim Jong-un.”

Meanwhile, fashion statements peaked with:

“I proudly showed Ben my 4 jumper jumper.”
Four jumpers, one man. Is it practical? Iconic? Both.

L3s: Croissants and Mo-ments

The Ladies’ 3s delivered their own pre-match drama:

“Pre-game, I decided to eat my croissant in front of all. Apparently, it was funny. I would argue it was breakfast.”

The match report then veered into self-reflection:

“Anyway, I’ve dedicated 2 paragraphs to this really uninteresting story now. Onto the game, which is mostly about me anyway.”

Mo remains Lemon royalty, her antics keeping us endlessly entertained.

A huge cheer for the Ladies’ 4s, who finally secured their first league victory! Naomi’s relentless drive earned her Player of the Week as the team shook off weeks of close defeats to claim a well-deserved win.

Jim Hockley’s accidental handball leading to a penalty flick and Fi Wright’s unsportsmanlike outburst earned them this week’s coveted Lemons.

Also Ozzy perfectly summarised how mixed A & B wanted to go last weekend. “We didn’t want to win anyway.”

Through wins, weather, occasional categor-esque match reports and many many lemons, Cambridge South keeps proving why there’s no club quite like this one.

What a weekend! We wrapped up with 6 wins, 2 draws, and 4 tight losses – not too shabby! Here’s the best of the match reports that kept us entertained:

Match Reports Highlights:
• M1s: No report from you this week… Did we scare you off?
• M4s: “Quick injection straight to Ali, top D, who sidesteps the runner and buries it just inside the back post. Nice.” Short and sweet, but shoutout to Captain Danny for treating us to a few more words this week!
• M5s: “I’m going to do this bullet point style because that’s how my brain works.” Same, Will, same.
• Shoutout to Rosie B! Her reports always bring a laugh, with gems like “…establishing we could tell our Nicolas from our Nicoles” and “Vicki practically getting a nosebleed she was so high up the pitch.” Rosie, just write them all, please?
• L4s: Pure chaos. Ostriches spotted in the Fens? El, thinking a player was grass and earning ‘lemon of the week’ for it. “Certified yappers”? Correct.
• L3s: “We lost the toss, but this was no indicator of things to come.” Queens, you know the feeling, and you slayed with a win too!
• L1s: “Our new favorite approach to playing hockey is spending 60 mins faffing around with the ball.” Honestly, if it works, it works. This one had me: “I’d liken the post-match feeling to that of a 5-year-old who’s done a dreadful crayon and jam drawing, but your mum is delighted.” Big Han, you make us laugh every time!

Player of the Week goes to Vicki G, who usually holds down the defense but somehow found herself on the other end of the pitch and scored! And Connor Trimble – no words, all action, congrats on your 3 goals!

To everyone, well done and cheers to another week of matches, madness, and match reports that make some of our days better!

From lovely positive feedback, people seemed to love the match report quote up last post so let’s recap the weekend just gone:

M1s, shock but not to our horror, another category themed match report. From HL7, “which category would the lads do to categorise the lads?”

From the M6s, there was a teammate that was “…being a greedy pizza goblin.”

L1s and their supposed lack of team talk? Lack of inspiration? Lack of knowledge on what defensive positions were called? El Capitano Jenny!

“Kate, thank you for being more articulate than me and actually saying something useful at half time - frankly, we needed to be reminded that we were playing “a bit sh*t” and it did the job.”

Love the metaphor from the L2s “Anna L darted up the sidelines and into the D like a gazelle…”

Special mention also to Anne-Marie for her goal line save, which contributed to a clean sheet!

Also stealing this from the L3s. “We assembled our lemonselves.” Tickled me more than it should. Also KB is okay!

Finally, player of the weeks go to Anne-Marie for a goal line save and a Lemon of the week goes to Nic, girl we’ve all been there! Then for the men, it’s MC, new player, new energy, and our first PLOM of the week! Outstanding work. Only made sense to give you the ultimate lemon after receiving your first.

Special shout out to the L6s first league goal in a new division, new teams and new fighting spirit!

Well done everyone over the weekend! Encouraging you to still write your match reports so we can all giggle and relive some iconic moments in pitch. Let’s keep the energy! Onto the weekend 🏑🔥

Our first Cambridge South Club Day was a fantastic celebration of community, competition, and camaraderie! With six Halloween-themed teams battling it out in an internal hockey tournament, the day was filled with “spooky passes” and “ghostly goals” that kept everyone entertained and in the spirit.

A special shoutout goes to , our food truck, who stepped in at the last minute to provide delicious food that kept us fueled all day. Their tasty offerings were a perfect addition, and we’re incredibly grateful for their flexibility and fantastic service.

The raffle was another major highlight, raising over £570 for the club, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of our amazing sponsors: , , , , and . Their support and donations of wonderful prizes were essential to the raffle’s success, allowing us to raise crucial funds while adding excitement to the day. A huge thank you to each sponsor for helping us achieve this.

Congratulations to our champions, the Eerie Entities, who claimed their well-deserved bragging rights! Big thanks to Will for organizing the P Flicks & Shuffles game, Cassie W. for her invaluable help with timekeeping and scoring, and to Indi, Harry, Sammy, Dalin and the Storey and Talmage families for the delicious bake sale treats that raised an extra £45!

Thank you to everyone who came, contributed, and made this day special. We’re already excited for next year’s Club Day!
