Day 3 of Bumps:
M1 - “Was a 3 way sandwich with Binson and then Queens behind. Bumped out on Grassy. Was a good effort.” - Maisie, Men’s Captain
W1 - “strong rowever that turned into a nice paddle after the 10 crews behind us all bumped out. Then finally a jepic bump on Queens to get out of sandwich boat and into div 1! Hoping to maintain our position tmrw to get out of sandwich boat position!” - Lexi, Women’s Captain
M2 - “Another solid rowover for house M2. An absent Magdalene boat left Tit Hall with a technical bump in front of us so we were forced to chase the over bump to Fitz. The boys put in a big shift all the way to the end, not giving an inch to the Lucy boat behind.” - Luke, M2 Captain

Lent Bumps Day 4 roundup!

With another day being net positive and M1 on a hot streak, tomorrow is definitely set to be a fantastic finale! Once again, here’s what the captains and I had to say:

“tried a couple corners today, felt good” - Martin Kovacs, M1 captain

Yesterday was a scrappy M3 division, with Clare blocking the river when clearing, causing a maximum fine and a rerow. Therefore our M2 headed back to the start to do it all over again, aiming to chase down Trinity Hall M2. However, at grassy corner there was even more turmoil, with Christs bumping Fitz and attempting to clear, whilst Queens attempted an evasive manoeuvre around the two crews with barely a boats-width between the bank. Obviously, this didn’t go to plan and Queens ploughed into the bank, causing one of their crew to ejectocrab into the cam. All in all, this led to technical rowovers for all the remaining crews, so M2 are no longer on for spoons!

W1 had a really great row yesterday, getting within half a boat of Fitz W1 and causing CamFM to preemptively call a bump. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to secure the bump, but will come back tomorrow with the confidence that they can do it.

Lent Bumps day 3 roundup!

PBC’s best day so far, being net positive across all crews! Here’s what the captains had to say:

“We bumped.” - Marton Kovacs, M1 captain

“We rowed over.” - Alex Hodson, M3 captain

Very detailed description there, but the results speak for themselves. M1 are hungry for more bumps on Day 4 and all crews are feeling strong, so make sure to cheer them on from the Plough! Yeah ‘House!

Lent Bumps Day 2 roundup - M1 bump!

On day two, we decided to get some feedback from the captains:

‘As rain started to fall, M1 were determined to chase into the slowly fading sunshine, getting off to a punchy start, the fastest we’ve had all term. And with whistles coming soon after we kept it high, steadily moving up on Queens until first post corner, where we secured a lifetime first bump for many in the crew. Special commendation to Harry for his birthday and Maisie for her excellent clearing afterwards in a tricky situation with bumped crews on either side.’ - Marton Kovacs, M1 captain (and serial yapper)

‘Another rowover! We had a very clean start, getting to within 1 length of FaT M3 by first post, but unfortunately we flagged off through Grassy and Plough reach so they pulled away again. Despite a really good shift on the Reach where we were closing the distance, they finished relatively comfortably around 1.5-2 lengths ahead’ - Alex Hodson, M3 captain

Lent Bumps Day 1

Not the start we were looking for today, with all of M3 division swapping places and a couple of crabs being caught 🦀! However we come back stronger tomorrow with M1 getting in on the action and hoping to get PBC’s first bump of the campaign!

Lent Bumps 2025 - The Crews

And so here’s how they line up. All 4 of our PBC boats are pumped and ready and hungry for bumps! Watch this space (and our story) for daily updates and race timings throughout the campaign. Let’s go ‘House! 💪

It’s that time of the year again… bumps season!

But first, before the beginning of PBC’s Lent bumps campaign, was the getting on race on Friday. Our W2 and M3 were fighting to secure their spots, and some of PBC gathered by the reach to cheer them on.

W2 have had a really great term of rowing, despite a lot of yellow flags and mixed crews. On Friday, they looked speedy and focussed during their race, but unfortunately just fell short of getting on, so won’t be racing bumps. However, the Talbot Cup awaits! They have all shown great individual improvements in technique and erg times, and have set a great precedent for going into Easter term 💪.

Our M3 had a lot to live up to after dominating at Pembroke regatta, and were full of confidence going into the getting on race. They remained cool, calm and collected, and demonstrated some seriously strong rowing, looking like a well-oiled machine. They were quick enough to get on, so we will see how they will do tomorrow! Yeah ‘House!!

PBC had 5 crews racing on Saturday - M1, W1, M2, W2 and M3, with lots of solid rowing and great coding on display.

M1 had almost half a boat of substitutes on Saturday, so all things considered they put on a very good performance for never having rowed together as a crew. They faced off against a tough Clare M1 in round 1, and the boys put up a very strong fight, only just beat out by a very strong Clare crew (who ended up placing 2nd overall, so the loss was not too painful).

W2 have come on leaps and bounds this term and showed some really good rowing on Saturday - definitely a good basis to build on. Unfortunately they got drawn against Lady Margaret W2, who ended up taking the win in the first round.

Our speedy M2 breezed past Sidney Sussex M2 by 2 lengths in the first round, showing off their power and prowess. A Clare rematch then occurred when they faced off against Clare M2 in the 2nd round, which sadly ended with the same result. A very strong showing and a lot of confidence to build upon before bumps.

The stars of the river on Saturday were Peterhouse M3. In their first round, they showed real promise by thrashing Pembroke M3 by 3 lengths, giving them momentum going into round 2. They were then put against Christs M3, which they handled easily and put them into the final against Queens M3. The boys showed some incredible rowing and really came together as a crew, ultimately ending up with them beating Queens easily and taking home the win!! Congrats to M3, and looking forward to see how their getting on race goes!

This morning, PBC went for a little 5k fun run to get everyone back in the mood for training week after Christmas. Despite the cold, there was a really good turnout and the views were stunning! 🤩

FINAL MOVEMBER UPDATE!

The boys in blue and white put on an absolute shift over November growing out their ‘staches (Charlie tried his best) to raise awareness for men’s mental and physical health.

In the end we were only able to raise £36, but it’s more about the awareness and support that we as a club wanted to promote. Yeah ‘House!!

(Late) winter head roundup 2024

Last Saturday, 4 Peterhouse boats took to the Cam for the first race of the term.

W1 had a difficult race having to adjust to a different crew, but gave it their all and finished overall 17th in the Women’s 8+ 1st Boat category with a time of 10:36.5. A good stepping stone for the next race - Fairbairns!

M1 were the fastest College 4+ at Winter Head with a speedy time of 9:32.9! They only narrowly missed out on some silverware to UEA in the student 4+ category - a university with ~40x as many students as Peterhouse. It was a very promising result, especially as the crew now turns their attention to Fairbairns. We look forward to seeing what they can do!

W2 really impressed everyone (including themselves) this race, showing that the early morning outings really paid off in the end. By far their best outing as a crew, the girls sped through the course, finishing 6th in the Women’s 8+ 2nd boat category with a time of 11:50.6. With a new confidence, they are looking forward to Fairbairns where they aim to better their already impressive ranking.

Our M2 crew really came together at Winter Head producing some of the best rowing they’ve done so far this year, reflected in their speedy 9:58.6 time. During the race they got overlap with the crew ahead of them, but they failed to concede the racing line. They were overall the fifth fastest college M2!

Overall a strong performance from everyone and a good way to get back into the swing of racing. On to Fairbairns!
