What a lovely Michaelmas training camp that was! I mean 3 days of sun in January - pretty unheard of really.
At fitzbc we got 5 boats out this training camp - and everyone was really excited to be back. After some battle paddling on both sides, as well as in mixed boats, many many indefinitely long pieces everyone was well and truly deserving of a couple of days rest before we started our training for the term.
We are all looking forward to training together this term at fitzbc!

🐐🚣♂️Fitzwilliam College Boat Club are looking for a qualified coach (need level 2 coaching or working towards level 2/recognized equivalent), with bumps experience, to support the men’s and women’s first boats (W1 and M1). The role is focused on preparing competitive crews for the lead up to Bumps racing at the end of term.

Slightly belated congratulations to our Senior Qergs team!
Congrats to our senior mixed crew for coming 5th overall and holding some super strong numbers - special shout out to our latest senior member of FCBC, Olivia, for doing her sprint on a twisted ankle and still pulling some crazy splits.
This year our FCBC crew was:
Harry Leeke - had a rave beforehand to hype himself up
Josh Walburton - brings watts and chocolate to the game and always carries a spare Lindt Chocolate
Olympia Pudelko - speed machine and team hydration station
Lara Marshall Roberts - strat? Fly and die. Go strong on the start and almost pass out at the end
Olivia Ward-Jacobs - once a sculling legend, is now a stroke side boss and pulled our fastest ladies splits
Alex Penberthy - kept it long and strong. Tony would’ve been proud of her ‘standing on the footplate’
Oli Fitzgerald - moved us up 2 places in the final 1k. Tank was definitely emptied
Sam Fiveash - only 2 other people in the entire division pulled faster splits… not to mention he rowed 25k right before meet time

Well done to our novices for completing qergs!
NM1 did a fantastic job despite missing our secret weapon Johan and having a few technical difficulties with the erg seat (Alex fell off). Vibes were high and a good time was had by all.
Our novice ladies did a brilliant job at qergs!! Some amazing performances all around, with our stunning crew finishing 8th out of 11 very strong competitors. Kayla started off with a phenomenal sprint, followed by Minali, Narthana, Annie, Bronwen, Dita, Lilian and the relay was finished by Juliette! Everyone did a fantastic job, and made FCBC super proud!!

Congrats to both our uni IVs crews!! What a brilliant performance guys :)
Well done to the women’s IV on getting through to the semi finals of University IVs!
After just a few outings together we went into the first round against Murray Edwards with confidence and determination. It was a tight race, beating them by just 3 seconds. In the semis we were racing Pembroke, who did beat us. Despite the windier conditions, we rowed well and even did our best race start in the IV yet! Yeah Fitz!
The round of 16 saw a strong start for the M1 4+, who immediately applied pressure on Homerton and established a substantial lead before the race was prematurely halted due to protests. Nonetheless Fitz’s lead was significant enough to be declared winners.
In the quarter-finals, we entered as underdogs against Maggies M1, yet a composed and spirited performance allowed us to hold off their advances and even pull away along the Reach. Despite some confusion among marshals at the finish, Fitz progressed to the semi-finals.
Facing Caius and Lady Margaret in the semis, the crew delivered a powerful and determined row, demonstrating real grit. However, fatigue and an unfortunate crash brought an end to our Uni IV campaign.
Overall, it was an excellent showing from the crew — a series of confident, high-quality performances that proved we could compete with some of the strongest boats on the river.
