The 40th Women’s Blues Varsity Match was a highlight of the sporting calendar this year. Coming off the back of a strong season in the Midlands Tier 1 League, finishing 3rd, the team was carrying serious momentum into Varsity. With our previous league clash ending 2–1 in favour of Oxford, and standing one place behind them in the league table, the squad was eager to rise to the challenge and face one of the strongest Oxford sides of recent years for the title.
The opening minutes of the game saw Cambridge come out strong, with early threats down the left wing. As the half progressed, Cambridge faced increasingly dangerous attacking chances from Oxford, culminating in a goal, with the half ending 1–0 to the dark blues.
The second half saw a response from Cambridge, as they pressured the Oxford defence and dominated the midfield. Yet, with 20 minutes to go, Oxford capitalised on another chance to extend their lead to 2–0. Soon after, with fresh energy from their substitutions, Cambridge pressed up the pitch and, following a strike from Christiana Wayne, pulled one back.
Despite their best efforts, Cambridge were unable to equalise in the final stretch of the game, with the result finishing 2–1 to Oxford as the final whistle blew. The match was a true battle, and one of the closest women’s Varsity match-ups in years. Cambridge put in a stellar effort and fought incredibly hard. We will look to reclaim the Varsity title in the 2027 matches!

Men’s Blues Varsity: 1-0 win 🩵🩵
The get back gang are now the back to back gang, winning the first ever mens blues varsity on grange road and being the first mens blues side to win consecutive varsities since 2014.
The Blues took the lead early, a delightful cross from Vice Captain Aaron Kay was met by Captain Deniz Ozer, who opened the scoring within the first three minutes. Despite only scoring one, the Blues created several wonderfully worked chances. The midfield of Deniz, Aaron, Jesse Tapnack and Benji Tandy- Ortega proved difficult for Oxford to handle. This was made even more challenging by the introduction of Thomas Musie off the bench, who was an attacking threat the moment he stepped on the pitch.
The 141st Men’s Blues Varsity Match was the first Varsity clean sheet by a Cambridge side since 2014. A commanding defensive performance by the Blues maintained the 1-0 lead and brought home a deserving win. Centre Back Tom Craddock deservingly took home Man of the Match for his fantastic defensive performance, whilst goalkeeper Aram Sarkissian delivered some fine saves.
Captain Deniz Ozer lifted the trophy in what may turn out to be his final action in a CUAFC shirt, a fitting ending after 42 appearances and three varsities for the blues. What an evening!
