IMPROMPTU TOURNAMENT ON THURSDAY 11TH PLEASE COME

On Thursday 11th September there will be a tournament in the Wilkins Room at Downing College for the purposes of filming a video for YouTuber Tom Scott. The tournament will be 1:45pm for 2pm start, we are aware Thursday afternoon is not the most convenient time for a lot of people so we would be very grateful if anyone who is available can stop by. A mix of experienced and relative newbies would be great although you should have some experience playing the game before as we won't have the opportunity to explain the rules to you.
The tournament is primarily for background footage for the video so you will have to consent to being filmed, although there may be some scope for ensuring only certain camera angles (eg the back of your head only). There may be the opportunity to be interviewed if you would like however there is no expectation to be interviewed if you don't want to be.
If you can come then please fill in this form https://forms.gle/wMojCd9bCDbjfA2G7 or let Abby/Harley/Andrew know asap

Exciting news! The first ever Sheffield Open is happening 16-17th August at The Harlequin Pub, 108 Nursery Street, Sheffield, S3 8GG.

The format will be individual pairs which means players can drop in and out as they please and novices need only play in one match to secure themselves a tiddlywinks world ranking! (However to be eligible to win the tournament you cannot miss more than 2 rounds and cannot miss the last round without giving prior notice.)

We will have access to the venue from 10:30am each day so the first squidge off will commence at 10:45am.

If you are planning on coming it would be appreciated if you could let a committee member know to give a rough idea of the numbers though this is not necessary and you're welcome to turn up on the day. It would be especially useful if anyone who is able to bring mats could let us know!

We hope to see many of you in August as we bring tiddlywinks back to the North!

This weekend saw winks players from all over come together for two days of intense and fun competition in Cambridge for the ETwA National Pairs!

Saturday saw 14 pairs battling it out to get out of the group stages, with the top 4 from each group progressing to the final. Sunday's final was a tense and thrilling affair, with four teams still in the running to win the trophy going into the last round. In a match between the two group winners, it was ultimately Jon Mapley & Matthew Rose who emerged victorious with a convincing 6*-1* against Tim Hunt & Harley Jones, which saw them clinch the title. Congratulations to Jon & Matthew and to all the other pairs who made the final such a thrilling occasion!

Meanwhile, for those who didn’t make the final, on Sunday there was the Non-Qualifiers’ Plate, which was a fierce set of games. Katherine Drew & Natasha Holmes played some fantastic winks and came out on top by just 1 point—congratulations!

Full results of the tournament across the two days can be found here: https://cutwc.org/News/Results/
The ETwA ratings have also been updated: https://etwa.org/ratings/

A big thank you to all the players who joined us and made this event such a fun and competitive weekend. We can’t wait to see everyone back for the next round of tiddlywinks action in Oxford on November 17th! (Keep your eyes out for an email containing full details in the coming weeks.)

Hi all,

Another week, another extremely last minute newsletter.

Happy Wednesday, I am sure you are all on the edge of your seats to learn what is happening in the world of Tiddlywinks this week.

Tonight, we will be holding the Nick Leaton University Novice Pairs Tournament at 7:30pm in the Barbara White Room, Newnham College. This is a chance for all you novices to show off just how good at winks you have all become and compete in a tournament that Patrick cannot beat you in (fear not, you have the rest of your winking career for him to do this)! Please try and arrive promptly for the draw and the subsequent rounds.

Fear not, returning winkers, for you too have your chance to play some competitive winks, as the Nick Ashley Ladder Tournament is restarting this term, with our secretary Jack Murphy running admin. Please look out for an email from him shortly with all the details.

Additionally, a reminder that the National Pairs is happening this weekend at Downing College. If you wish to take part, please let Harley know by this evening.

Dear all (most importantly those of you who are not yet familiar with the wonderful world of tiddlywinks!),

Welcome to the Cambridge University Tiddlywinks Club! It was so lovely to meet you all over these past two days and we hope to see you at our weekly practices!

Our first session is our Freshers' Squash event tonight, at 7:30pm in the Barbara White Room, Newnham College. Please do come along to learn the game from esteemed players, drink the signature club cocktail, TGP, and meet other novices! You can drop in at any time and we will likely be heading to the bar afterwards to play some fun drinking games (alcohol entirely optional)!

In the meantime, if 7:30 is simply too long to wait for your next taste of tiddlywinks, consider checking out our website https://cutwc.org/ or this introduction video on our YouTube channel https://youtu.be/xLATMOt70gw?si=hnCUIiEVBK4XdxjE

We meet weekly at 7:30pm every Wednesday and will be in the Barbara White Room all term, so fear not if you cannot make it today, newcomers are always welcome! We also host socials and pub crawls throughout the term, which you can hear all about in my weekly email.
