What IS the plan to grow Superkarting in the Uk?

My thoughts and opinions may not align with you all, but to me, they are very obvious!

The best way to start long circuit racing is to convert a KZ, from short circuit engine to a long circuit chassis.

125’s for me need to be KZ based, as this is surely the best option for the class to grow and for the class to thrive. The history of 125cc racing over the last 30 years + , has developed some of the greatest races and drivers I have personally ever witnessed in karting. It is a disgrace to our beloved sport, that it has been allowed to decline in the manner it has.

For me, everybody in the sport needs to get behind a complete modernisation of the regulations and look at what will work the best for the longevity of the sport. It’s a natural progression route from 125’s, to 250mono to twins.

Unfortunately, many, I feel, don’t know where or how to voice ideas or concerns on where the problems of Superkarting reside & how to repair the cracks that are now clearly showing. The ruling body needs to work much harder, must interact so much more with ALL the drivers and people that want to help . Having not been to a meeting for over three years, I was gobsmacked by the feedback around the paddock. Genuine concern that the sport has declined to a point where its existence is now in real jeopardy. Costs have spiralled to a point where many are thinking of taking the tough decision to no longer race all season, or at all.

What had not changed, the competitive, but friendly atmosphere. Lots of assisting each other, lending parts, engines and having a beer together. Speaking willingly to spectators and taking the time to talk to potential new comers. The hardest part, how to stay positive when talking about it. We know it’s the best racing available pound for pound. In relative terms, it’s cheaper than most car racing. However, not everybody has tens of thousands to spend a year to race.

What’s wrong with one set of tyres for everyone per meeting? Offers a financially viable alternative and levels the playing field. Tests drivers abilities etc. Why do we need an open class in 125? Maybe the Australian model of having weight categories within, is a great option. Standard KZ spec and KZ heavyweight? (Maybe call it something less derogatory!)

I’m keen to hear the thoughts of the group and how simple action can be taken and implemented, to the benefit of the whole sport and to the financial and commercial benefit to the BSRC.

The sport needs to wake up. Modernise. Be relevant. Be socially aware and up to date. Be commercially attractive to sponsors. Be recognised by MSUK. Be simplified. Stop living in the past.

Well, that’s my opinion dumped on you all. I’m working flat out to promote the sport on social media. Support has really only come through from drivers, both past and present and family members. You are all so passionate, but clearly disillusioned by the lack of a clear road map for the sports future. Having a chat here and there in the paddock with a chosen few, creates division, creates rumours, makes others feel non valued and is not how you run a business or a series.

Well, I look forward to the potential backlash from this post. If it be the death of my social media journey, then so be it. It’s just my opinion, and what I have witnessed/experienced first hand. Catch you on the other side!

Great video from current Honda Cadet driver Deno Rowlands Racing. It was amazing to see a young kart racer visiting Donington and getting to interview drivers about the sport and the wins at the GP. Deno is an avid fan of this page and our website. Please do go and get check out his YouTube channel below. He’s bloody quick and one to watch as he goes up the classes. Has great family support and a real rapport with his fellow drivers that is very commendable for such a young age. Oh, some great video footage of our new stickers on The THR development kart! Let me know if you want some sending out to help get the word out even wider and faster!
