On Sunday it was The International Day of Yoga and the Summer Solstice so we had a wonderful joyful celebration with yoga students and teachers at the studio. We did Salutes to the Sun and explored the different styles of teaching yoga from Desikachar, Iyengar and Vanda Scaravelli. There was also time to practice the cooling breath which we needed as it was so hot. Everyone brought delicious food to share for lunch, We then had a relaxing yoga Nidra and walking meditation, the day finished with a beautiful session of kirtan. Thanks to everyone who came and contributed towards the day.

Next ConsciousCafe meeting
Wednesday June 17th 6.00 - 7.30pm
In the words of the famous Simon and Garfunkel song have you ever needed a Bridge over Troubled water or been one to someone else? I love the words of the song which emphasises the importance of other people in our lives: -
“I'm on your side. When times get rough
And friends just can't be found,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.”
We’ll discuss the ways we can help ourselves and others “when times get rough.” Maggie Smith, a retired Counsellor and author of books on the subject will talk about what has helped people in her own experience. Cora Kemball-Cook has practiced yoga and meditation for nearly 50 years and will share some of the practices that she has found beneficial.
Perhaps you will have experiences to share of what has helped or maybe you’ll find some ideas from our discussion. Everyone is welcome, it’s a warm friendly group and a great way to meet like-minded people.
You can book by going to www.canterburyyoga.co.uk Click on classes and scroll down to June 17th. Just add your name and email address and pay when you come. Cost is only £5.00ggaM

Course starting 30th May - 1st June
What is Transcendental Meditation (TM)?
TM is a simple, natural technique practiced sitting comfortably with eyes closed for 20 minutes twice a day. Using a silent mantra, the mind settles effortlessly into stillness, allowing the body to experience deep rest and release built-up tension.
Regular practice supports overall wellbeing—helping to ease stress, improve sleep, boost energy, and enhance focus and creativity.

It was lovely to gather together yoga teachers and other keen yoga students to hear all about Joanna Labon’s fascinating advanced yoga teacher’s course in an Ayurvedic Eco ashram near Mysore. She showed us beautiful photos of the place and many of us felt inspired to go there too!
