The Association of Mountaineering Instructors aims to help you become an independent and self-reliant mountaineer. Whether your sport is hill walking, rock climbing or snow and ice climbing our members will develop your skills to help you move safely and confidently in the UK and Irish hills. AMI members are highly experienced mountaineers who have undergone rigorous training and assessment to qualify under the Mountain Leader Training UK (MLTUK) Mountaineering Instructor scheme. All full members of the Association are holders of the Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor Award (MCI) or the higher award, the Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructors Award (WMCI).

One weekend. Two different climbing goals. 🧗

AMI member Andy from Andy Brown spent a couple of days out with Anna and Chee from the Austrian Alpine Club (UK) - Alpenverein Britannia, with both working on something new.

Anna was developing her lead climbing skills, while sport climber Chee got her first taste of trad climbing.

From the Moelwyns to Tremadog, it was a weekend of learning, developing new skills and getting stuck into some brilliant climbing.

AMI member Stu McInnes from Stu McInnes - The Climbing Company was out with a candidate who after some extra training and development was able to successfully complete his Rock Climbing Development Instructor (RCDI) award.

In Stu’s words ‘it was great to see how much he had progressed!’

The qualification is a milestone — but the learning, experience and development continue long after the assessment.
