"5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Turning 35 About Training"
Let me take you back—back when I thought I had everything figured out in the gym. I was relentless. Heavy lifts, pushing harder every session, barely resting. Thought I was unstoppable.
Spoiler alert: I wasn’t.
Hitting my mid-30s taught me some hard truths. Things I wish I’d learned sooner. But hey, better late than never, right? If you’re in that 30-50 range, still trying to train like you’re 21—this one’s for you.
1. You’re Not Invincible.
I trained like my body would never fail me—until it did. Aching joints, random injuries, recovery taking longer than expected. Your body keeps receipts, trust me. Respect it. Train for longevity, not ego.
2. Recovery Isn’t a Luxury—It’s Essential.
Back then, I treated recovery like an afterthought. Foam rolling? Stretching? Nah, I’ll just lift. But now? Sleep, mobility work, and proper rest days are non-negotiable. If you’re not recovering, you’re not progressing. Period.
3. Strength Isn’t Just About Lifting Heavy.
I was obsessed with numbers—how much weight I could throw around. But real strength? It’s also in how well you move, how stable you are, and how functional your body feels. After 35, it’s about building a body that works, not just one that lifts big.
4. Your Mental Game Matters.
Some days, your biggest battle won’t be with the barbell—it’ll be with your own mind. I had to shift my focus from purely physical to mental resilience. If your head’s not in the game, your body won’t follow.
5. Consistency > Intensity.
Going all-out every session might have worked in my 20s, but now? The real flex is staying consistent. Training four times a week, year after year, beats smashing yourself for a few months and burning out. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

If I could talk to my younger self, I’d say: "Stop trying to prove something in every session. Train smart, stay consistent, and future-proof your body."
And if you’re reading this thinking, “Damn, that’s me right now,”—good. You’re exactly who TRIBE is built for. Former athletes, lifters, and anyone who refuses to fade into the background.
