Meyer and Fabris and Giganti, oh my! Last week, after our beginner longsword class, one regular class took a break from Meyer. Instead, Sophie taught a rapier class using plays from Giganti and Fabris, including the sassiest move ever, Inquartata. We'll be back to longsword this week but we'll certainly revisit rapier in the future!

Class is on as normal this weekend!

We'll be taking a break from eating Easter eggs, and both our beginner and regular class will be running at the usual times 🤺

Last week our hardworking beginners got to grips with Meyer's Square, and some stayed to join in with our evening of sparring.

This week our longsword beginners will continue with winding, which marks the halfway point of the beginners course. The time is flying! We're very proud of all our beginners so far 🤺

We've been busy!

Last week was the final class of our sabre beginners course. Well done to all our new members - it's been a pleasure watching your skills and confidence grow over the past six weeks!

We're not resting though, as yesterday we began our latest longsword beginners course, with a new group starting their HEMA journey with us and getting to grips with the fundamentals.

On Sunday we kicked off our beginner's military sabre course, welcoming a mixture of regular members who want to explore a new weapon, and newcomers to HEMA. Our first class focused on the foundations of footwork, stance, grip and a few of the fundamental guards. Everybody worked really hard and we're excited for the rest of the course!

Then, our regular longsword class explored slicing, described by Joachim Meyer as 'a particular gem'.

Our first class of 2026 experimented with different counters from the guard of Ochs, followed by some sparring time to blow away the Christmas and New Year. Here's to another year of fencing!
