Congratulations to PB Performance Gym member Caryl ( ) who competed at the British Women’s Classic Championships last weekend! This was her first National Championship and she performed incredibly (recap below)!

What is Powerlifting? The Bench Press

The bench press is the second of the 3 lifts that make up the sport of Powerlifting (the last one being deadlift). It is also the second movement performed in any Powerlifting Competition.

The bench press is a very technical movement, even though it may look the like very simple. If done correctly, it uses not only the chest and arms but the back, core and the legs as well. It is one of, if not the, best movement(s) for building upper body.

The bench press can be broken down into four stages/phases: Initiation, Descent/Touch, Press and Lockout. Over the next few weeks we will cover these phases in more detail, including technical pointers and potential cues to improve each phase of the bench press.
