21 Days to Live Life Stronger 04/07/2023

It's been one month since I released my book, 21 Days to Live Life Stronger. I have had some really lovely comments and feedback from people and it really has been a humbling experience.
I don't honestly think I would have promoted it the way I did had it not been for the fact that I really wanted to help Julie Rose in raising money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. You can read more about the how and why I wrote the book in my blog www.empoweredchoice.co.uk/blog

To date, from book sales, the amount raised is £560, which is 128 books - all proceeds will continue to go to Julie's fundraiser, until I reach the target amount of 348 book sales, which matches the number of miles Julie covered in her London to Paris bike challenge in June.

I do have a huge favour to ask - if you have read the book, or even if you are part way through, would you please be kind enough to leave a review on Amazon (it really does make a big difference to the algorithm).

I do like a round number!

This is 100 orders processed and over £400 raised for Julie Rose's fundraiser for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity

I’m committed to reaching my goal of 348 sales, to match the same number of miles that Julie cycled from London to Paris last week.
If you have bought a copy, thank you so much 🥰❤️ (Please could you leave a review on Amazon as it really does help with the algorithm!)

'Tis the season... to self-care! 19/12/2022

At this time of year we can all really benefit from practicing self-compassion and self-care. Here's a blog I wrote recently, to remind us all to look after ourselves at this busy time of year

'Tis the season... to self-care! Most people find December an insanely busy and stressful time of year. Preparing for Christmas, shopping, work demands ahead of a short shut-down, visiting relatives, getting the home ready for guests, overspending with online shopping, children’s parties, work dinners and gatherings and school ev...

What is compassion costing you?

Being compassionate is a wonderful quality and virtue, it is likely to be one of your top values, and if you are a 'giver', then I am guessing you usually put everyone else's needs first and feel guilty if, on some rare occasion, you happen to put your needs first.

First of all, you are not alone, all of my clients are wonderful compassionate people. I love working with compassionate people, its incredibly rewarding; but I see the effects of compassion fatigue in my clients and this work has helped me to create resources to help people protect themselves against compassion fatigue. My latest blog outlines what the costs of compassion are, and how you can protect yourself from burnout, or compassion fatigue.

People-pleasing is EXHAUSTING!

Are you a People-Pleaser?

There are so many tell-tale signs that tell us if we are a people-pleaser or not.... If you are a deeply compassionate person, my guess is you are probably a people-pleaser too.

If :

👉 You say YES, when you really want to say no
👉 You constantly put other people’s needs above your own
👉 You over-give, and keep giving because you simply don’t know how to say ‘no’
👉 You feel responsible for how everyone else feels, all the time
👉 You are taken for granted by other people
👉 You aren’t valued or respected the way you deserve
👉 You keep your hurt and pain hidden ‘beneath the surface’
👉 You drop everything when someone asks for help.
👉 You are emotionally exhausted and burned out

Then you are a people-pleaser !

THE IMPORTANCE OF DAILY HEALTHY HABITS AND ROUTINES

You may have seen my recent post regarding serving as a juror on a child murder case. Without doubt, one of the most distressing and traumatic experiences of my life. I had to rely on every coping strategy I knew to cope with the deeply traumatising evidence we listened to.

Coming out the other side of that experience I can safely say having daily healthy habits and setting up a regular routine is one of the most important things for me in maintaining my resilience.
Being resilient doesn’t make you immune to stress or overwhelm, but when life throws us curve-balls we rely on our emotional resilience to 'bounce-back', to recover from difficulties quicker and stronger.

Resilience doesn’t just happen. I believe resilience is a skill we can develop, just like confidence. Resilience develops in the way we treat ourselves, in good times as well as bad; and that starts with having healthy habits set as a daily routine.

As an example, my daily morning routine starts with a journal, 5 minutes with a cup of tea, reviewing how I’m feeling, and what things I need to do to get my day off to a good start. This includes 5 minutes meditation, writing down 3 affirmations to keep me focused on goals I want to achieve, a food plan for the day, and a review of my work and personal diary for the day, either the gym or a yoga session and finally a shower (including a 2 minute cold blast; thank you Wim Hof!). I usually also make time to connect with others.

When I take time to start my day with my journal, my day inevitably pans out better than when I don’t.

What do you do on a daily basis to look after your emotional well-being?
