A little update on how the Club is continuing to play during Covid-19 and restrictions.
For those who have moved to online Bridge with Club members, you'll be aware of what's been happening. For those who haven't taken that leap yet, please try it, we'd love to see you.
Arthur, John and Allan got pairs leagues off the ground on BBO - this was the start, way back in April. We had a Teams League thanks to John and the opportunity to play with anyone or set a challenge too (see competitive & challenge - the robots can drop you in it!).
Then came Stepbridge in July, recommended by WBU and moved forward for the Club with Keith, Arthur and myself as TD's - recently joined by Dennis, Roger, Gwyn and Dan. Downside- TD's can't play while they are officiating. Stepbridge brought us duplicate sessions - the link is on our website, takes you to the results on Stepbridge - we have had up to 10 tables and were playing in our own Club Duplicate Monday and Wednesday evenings. It is possible to play league games there too.
Recently the Club launched on RealBridge, everyone had to play a taster session first, to ensure their devices were compatible and be shown the features. This is the closest we have come to face-to-face Bridge since March - video and audio, banter is back! The ability for quick replies to questions and thank you partner's, without typing - I'm loving it! It may not be everyone's cup of tea - but if you don't want to see or speak to people, you can switch your camera and sound off! You can also post your convention card in the message box at each table, so your opponents can refer to it, if they want - or they can just ask - how refreshing! This is different to the others the Club has been using - your convention card is saved in your profile. Realbridge doesn't save your details - except when you login - name and number are remembered. It is important to login with your name as you would normally write it (capitals at the beginning of all names, using both 1st and surname) this way you are recognised in the Club scoring - those who are interested in handicaps, Slam Ladder and the like!
Rhiwbina members are also able to play in Lisvane sessions - Mondays and Thursdays - see their website for the links.
The links to our sessions are on our homepage https://www.bridgewebs.com/cgi-bin/bwoo/bw.cgi?club=rhiwbina&pid=display_home
Taster sessions run by Realbridge can be found under NEWS https://realbridge.online/ for those who would like to see what it's all about. If you would prefer a taster session with just Rhiwbina or Lisvane members - please contact the Committee - if we have enough people interested, we can run another taster session.
Looking forward to SEEING and CHATTING (between play) with you next week 👍
I'll be there, looking forward to it. Had to give up Book Club meeting - that's how dedicated to Bridge I am! 😁
Rhiwbina Realbridge duplicate sessions start tonight. See the club website for details.
